F..K OFF!

Now I am not all Julie Andrews when it comes down to a good swear, but I do think that there is a time and a place for expletives to be unleashed!
The odd " fucker" is acceptable , especially at times of high emotion but I hate any thought of swearing in front of children, and in public generally especially if you don't know if your chosen words of expression could insult or upset.
Donald Trump's new communication man, Anthony Scaramucci's foul mouthed attack on his predecessors underlines a predictable and worrying step by the Trump administration back into street behaviour. It isn't, as Scaramucci would insist, just colourful language. It is a way to bully and to intimidate, very much like a mean dog barking at the wind.....and in my mind it shows just how unstatesmanlike TRUMP is to pick a foul mouthed thug as his communications  man! ( communications man for Christsake! )

Having said all this I remember I once worked with a Hospital Chaplain who was the most irritating , patronising and thoroughly pious individual one would ever have the misfortune to meet. One day I saw him stop a entire Church service to theatrically remove a box of smokes from the hands of a long term psychiatric patient, and with his nose in the air as he slipped the tin under his surplus, another patient, a woman in her sixties , chirped up very loudly in a home counties crystal cut accent
" You are a real first class cunt !"
Like I said there is a time and a place

It was as thought 90+ years of bottled up bad language had been uncorked. It was light relief at a difficult time. I swear like a docker x

  15. Despite their golden boys image, the Kennedys had connections with the Mafia, and were serial adulterers. LBJ & Nixon were foul-mouthed, warmongering, crooks. Good ol' Jimmy Carter funded and supported the Afghan mujahideen, paving the way for today's Islamic fundamentalism. The Clintons are as shady as it comes, whilst Bush Jnr was a nitwit warmonger. Obama? He okayed plenty of drone bombings, and kept Guantanamo open. Trump is no better, no worse; to pretend otherwise is virtue-signalling myopia. ALL of them make me swear.

    2. If you're trying to say "all of our modern leaders have made mistakes, Trump is just the most recent one." Then yeah, I guess that was well said. No one is perfect, and we dont expect them to be. But we do expect intelligence, pragmatism, and a basic amount of human decency--all of which is absent from this administration and this administration alone. Dismissing Trump as no worse than those before him enables and empowers such lunacy and contempt. Expect more. Demand more. Rant over.

    5. Kennedy ramped up a Vietnam war that eventually cost over a million 'enemy', and @60,000 US, lives. For what? LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Regan facilitated quasi-fascist regimes all over South America; hundreds of thousands were tortured or murdered. Clinton & Bush Jnr. carried on the war politics; the latter opening a Pandora's Box of bloodlust, that eventually begat Isis.

Those weren't 'flaws', 'mistakes', or 'a lack of human decency'. Large scale numbers of people were systematically murdered by successive American administrations, who worshipped at the altar of the war machine.

Trump might wear his loudmouthed oafishness on his sleeve, but he's essentially no different to the scum that preceded him.

Unfortunately, the same things seem to be happening here in the UK especially since Brexit with an increase in anti-semitic and other racist rhetoric and violence. I used to feel proud of belonging to a nation famed for its tolerance (although watching the current programmes in the BBC's gay season is making me rethink that as well), but no longer. I'd apply for European nationality if it were possible, unforunately I have no way to do that.

I am probe to the F-word popping into my speech here and there but only when appropriate/with the right person/generally in a humorous way... I knew someone from London who would say "Well F*** me !" when he was surprised and for some reason, it always made me giggle like a child ... he always had a twinkle in his eye when he said it.

I've tried cussin'. It isn't a habit I'm likely to need. I never heard my mother or her nine sisters use such words. The vocabulary was never a part of our huge extended family's language, and being raised Methodist may be part of it. :) Have used one the s word and deliberately wrote "f word" (fudge) to make people think I'd used the other "f" word. :)

Hearing those words on television and in movies brings them to the forefront of our thoughts, which makes it easy for them to slip past one's guard. "Dang" is my weakness.

  35. Because I worked in prisons, I routinely heard language that caused my hair to curl. I schooled myself to speak in a way that Pat's Methodist household would thoroughly approve, because I felt I had to set an example. Now that I'm retired, and the political situation here is as it is, I'm grateful to all those men who taught me language appropriate to the time. Even if I do say those things only in private.

  43. My parents never swore and would keep my sister and myself inside the house if the vet or anyone else prone to bad language came to the farm. I married a man who never swears and I only use about three words if things aren't going well and only if I'm on my own. I've washed out the mouhs of all my three children with soap and water when necessary. The two boys don't use bad language and my daughter tends to write it on FB but doesn't tend to use it in our presence. When I was 19 and spending four months of my gap year with my great-aunt in California I was able to take a free college course on my visitors vidsa. I found the constant use of the f-word confusing until I realised the young people were using it as their only adjective and I was somewhat impressed by the different nuances which could be made of a single word. What seemed strange was that everyone felt "b*llsh*t" was a much more terrible word than the f one, when it didn't seem all that dreadful at all to me, and still doesn't. I know about cattle and I like the shape and sound of the word. A bit like the US TV stations which would broadcast the most awful full-on sex stories during the day when children could watch them in the guise of soap operas but put a public health warning in front of a 10pm showing of John Wyndham's Random Quest!
