I too always see her as Melanie in GWTW - but that was such a special film in so many ways (my all-time 2nd favourite!)
She's now reached the age which the Queen's own mum attained, though in the case of OdeH I don't know of her being sustained on gin or similar 'nourishments'.
I've hinted at my absolute fave enough times on my own blog, Athene, but given that I only have a relatively few followers - fewer than just about anyone else's blog I read - here are a few pointers. A melding of two of my passions, Astronomy and philosophy, and with a profoundly satisfying and inconclusive riddle of an 'ending' (which maddens many). I need say no more. (Needs I?)
I agree John, what took so long to give her that award? But how come the last living Damnbuster didnt get one - makes you wonder what more you have to do doesn't it. Anna
They're always awarding somebody with an honour. I'm surprised they haven't given something to Ringo by now. They gave McCartney something and he can't sing at his age. If they give Ringo a knighthood I'll swear it's a fix.
My favourite too! People forget that she actually won 2 Oscars and was a very good actress, as well as being the chief instigator of the breaking of the studio contract system.
Nice!
ReplyDeleteI was expecting music to go with that title!

ReplyDeleteSomewhere Melanie is saying, "Who?"

SECOND favourite? What could possibly surpass Gone With The Wind? I'm intrigued Raybeard, please tell us your No.1?
DeleteShe looks quite similar to The Queen Mum too.

DeleteAh Melanie...the woman to admire in GWTW.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! Guess that means she won the rivalry, as she not only outlived her sister but is now also titled. (I liked them both ... equally).

ReplyDeleteIs that Olivia de Haviland? I thought she kicked the bucket years ago.
ReplyDeleteHer sister, Joan Fontaine, did a couple of years ago.

ReplyDeleteThey should give Ringo a knighthood for buggering off to live in California, turning hi back on his country and his home city.

ReplyDeleteShe still looks damn good for her age!
