Behind

I'm trying to get myself  going.
Another 10 hour sleep, and I still have not shaken this cold.
I'm still in bed looking at my old Christmas cactus.
It's thirty years old and is still hanging onto life despite a total lack of care.
It's my longest living companion......oh followed by the bathroom aspidistra that is, who, is, I believe, 26 years old.

I've just read Rachel's tirade on " Christmas nibbles"  ( ive not had the energy to catch up with blogs for a day or so) - it's reminded me that I am late sending packets full of shite xmas decorations to various friends I dont get to see over the festive period.
" packages of shite!" That's a nice festive tradition.......but at least it raises a smile when opened...

I'm working tonight , so I shall lift myself up by my bra straps tomorrow and get the packets sent and the cards posted.
I'm not like Rachel , as I enjoy this fussy part of the Christmas Preparation, I'm just slightly annoyed that I can't catch up with myself

Mein Gott, moaning Millie must have man flu (pretty good alliteration, hey). Btw, did you see a film director, quoting crew, described Russell Crowe as an arrogant pisspot?

  5. I'm nearly a week behind because of the lurgy. Thank Gawd for my gay men friends who came round last night and had the place looking like Santa's Grotto by the end of Strictly!!!Do you think it's wise to try and do a whole shift when you're not firing on all cylinders??Rest is best.

  8. Do go back to bed, stay there till you are well. We are of to the flea market/farmers market. Hoping the elves will show and have the house clean before we return

  10. I agree with others . . .
    Do a "call in sick!"
    Sleep/rest . . .

  11. Sorry you're still down, but glad you're not out. Maybe we need to neglect our Christmas cactus. It's lush and huge and has not flowered since we got it home about 2 years ago.

  12. It's tough not feeling 100% at this time of the year, and so I am hoping you are fully recovered soon.
I wish my Christmas cactus thrived as yours does. I think I am ready to purchase a replacement. Have not told the incumbent yet.

    Best wishes.

  13. I had a nine hour sleep last night .... unheard of for me and I woke up feeling like a zombie ... err perhaps I shouldn't say that to you ;-)

We can't work out how old our Christmas cacti is, somewhere between 50 and l0 years old, it's been my Mum in Laws, her mums and her mums before that ... I always live in fear that I'll kill the bloody thing and end a dynasty (I may be good with veggies but not so much with houseplants!!)

    1. '50 and 10' should read '50 and 70' ... so much for lots of sleep!!

  14. I have gone from having children and husband and friends to shop and wrap presents for ... to not really anyone . I have 2 young people, the parents only always want money anyway and to tell the truth, being alone has removed much of my holiday spirit, especially when my thoughts are mostly about leaving this place.
I do like decorating and I enjoy the music so I am not a total lost cause yet :)

    1. BTW, I do enjoy the baking aspect of the holidays .. there is something very Zen and peaceful about mixing and baking and the scents of chocolate and vanilla filling the house.

  15. My grandmother had an ooooollld Christmas Cactus that she successfully moved from NJ to FL many years ago and it grew in FL for 30 + years but then when she moved to the nursing home i have no idea what happened to it... I would have loved to have had it... Do remember to pass your Christmas Cactus on to someone who will love it...

Our Christmas prep is small again this year as we are STILL renovating the house... but i do believe next year we will get to participate in the Holidays!!! as i see a light at the end of the tunnel.. :) Feel better John. Hugs! deb

  16. Don't push yourself to do too much John...you are going to end up making yourself sicker. Helpful, healing thoughts are hopefully hopping your way that you and your chickens pull through. Are the dogs looking after you?

  17. That Christmas cactus appears totally normal and obviously happy to follow you about for thirty years. My dad said only water cactus when it rains in Arizona. Appears that is what you have done.

  18. I am just about always sick at Christmas time, I wonder if it isn't my body and mind doing an escapism thing because I'm not fond of the season.
I've never had a Christmas cactus that lived ... You are doing something right.
Call in sick - don't pass that cold on ...

  19. I think Christmas cacti and aspidistras actually prefer a total lack of care. They're DIY plants.

  20. I'm with the who-needs-nibbles, booze-is-enough faction. Olives, cashew nuts, Bombay mix, dips - just a fiddly, messy nuisance. Somebody always spills them all over the floor. Let people wait for a proper meal, I say.

  21. Niblles all the way here in Kemp Castle. And parcels of sh* too. I can't get enough Christmas. I am walking with a group today and Christmas Jumpers and Santa hats are the order of the day. I made a load of Jumper Bling for those who turn uo without a Chrstmas Jumper. They can pin them on the front of their jumpers No one will escape a bit of tackiness when I am around.

  22. maximum whey powders have approximately 25 grams of protein in step with serving, and with fees as little as 5 bucks per pound (15 servings), they offer the most inexpensive fee in step with gram of protein round. http://musclegainfast.com/ef13-muscle-supplement/
