Valentine's & Amateur Dentistry

Miss Norm please take note
after hours of design work, artistic endeavor and blood sweat and tears
The Prof's Valentine gift has been finished.
And even though I say so myself,
It's MAGNIFICENT!

I finished it this morning after a somewhat unsettled sleep
as I was woken around 4.30 am by the " chunnering " of an upset
bulldog. When I sleepily got to the kitchen, I was confronted by
a wide eyed Winnie standing with her mouth open .
She clearly wanted me to check inside her mouth.
Minutes later I had donned my trusty head torch and spied one of her baby teeth
hanging half out of its socket and with a twist popped it out of her gum.
Old dogs! The Prof had to do something similar with George a couple of weeks ago.
but , I suspect his patient wasn't as accommodating

Satisfied that all now was well, Winnie blew me a kiss and
stalked off to sleep on the couch.
She's still there as I type this

Sleeping her toothless sleep

  2. How can I read this post and look at those photos and still remain Cranky? It's a gift. So were the photos, especially Miss Winnie.

  3. That pen holder is really quite splendid. I was a bit dubious when I saw the photo yesterday but I'm impressed by your artistry. Love Winnie too.

  8. You must have the mind of a dog to read Winnie's pleading eyes like that. And Chris's desktidy. I think I recall John Noakes crafting one back in the day. "Here's one I did earlier".

  9. In the lobby of the law school I attended is a tile mosaic that was done by an artist / dentist. The challenge for first year students is to find the tooth set in the pattern. Can you incorporate the tooth into the valentine's design?

  15. I hope the prof doesnt have a casual look at the blog and spoil the surprise. It will be a great addition to his office and be a great diversion during difficult moments and silences.

  16. John, I think that is the sweetest gift I have ever seen. A treasure greater than a Faberge egg. Please let us know how he received it.

  17. The words "amateur dentistry" struck terror in my heart, but I read bravely on and was rewarded by viewing two beautiful mugs. You are a man of many talents, blessed with a kind heart.

  20. I am smiling.... My hubby as spent the past few nights with a pot of gold glitter and some glue. He is decorating a sleigh and 4 reindeer for next Christmas. He hopes to hang the whole thing from the ceiling........ I think it must be the season for men with a crafting streak.... My kitchen floor has a faint dusting of glitter now but I doubt I will receive a beautiful blinged up tin as a pen pot...

  25. You are kind of fortunate - when my pets have a dental problem it usually ends up abscessed and the vet ends up with a week's pay!

  26. I think newer readers of Going Gently Have missed the irony in this blog entry.
These desk tidy gifts have been an " in joke" between the prof and I over the years. I have made him several for birthdays and christmas tee hee

  33. That Kit-e-Kat tin will take some beating in the pen tidy stakes; the Prof will need to get his thinking cap on.
That lovely bulldog has the most photogenic face - you can't help but take a good photo of her. Adorable!

Dear old soul that she is. Your tin can tidy looks very nice.

  35. Oh that face!!! I would kiss that all day long! :) Nice pen tin - very craft-esque!

  36. I think you should enter the desk tidy into the craft section of the Trelawnyd flower show this year. It deserves a class all of its own! I hope Winne has recovered now.

  40. You never know when your nursing experience is going to come in useful.
I take back what I said about that pen pot John - it is really lovely.

  41. Praise be, I have been mentioned on the Going Gently Blog, I am indeed very honoured and will now include it on my CV !!!!

Now back to the matter in hand, The Tin Can, now I have to say you have somehow managed to pull it together (obviously due to many years of tin can creations), I am impressed with the placement of, the floral embellishments, I can even see a slight resemblance in design to Cath Kidston (or was it Ethel Austin !!) maybe even ever so slightly Liberty ISH !!

However, I now have to move on to the contents of the aforementioned tin. Now ,I talked of the status of the man himself, a Prof no less, I do feel his Profness, warranted, maybe a Papermate Pen or, indeed a Parker, not pens from the pound shop, even a few free pencils from Ikea !!

Now I will finish with this statement .............

It is, indeed the thought that counts ;)

Wishing you both a Happy Valentines Day

    xxxx

woo hoo I have been mention on JG's blog woooooo hooo

  42. John, I looked at your pen holder yesterday and thought to myself ohhhhh deeaaarr!!!
Today I am so impressed ... truly a labour of love and it has the look of love.
I'm not really a fan of bulldogs, but Winnie does look like an angel in this pic; she is so peacefully sleeping the sleep of the just.
Thank you for your blog; I seem to have 'going gently' acquired an addiction to a daily fix of 'life in Trelawnyd'.

  43. Aw little Winnie. I could cover her face with kisses.

  47. The desk tidy is quite impressive! Love the picture of Winnie. Thankfully, I have never had to pull any of my pets' teeth, but I suppose that day could still come.

  48. A lovely gift, he will be chuffed to bits by your artistic endeavours ..... all you have to do is keep it out of the reach of the dogs until he gets home to see it :-)

And also truly lovely that Winnie knows she can trust her Dad with a spot of dentistry when needed.
