Finally Some sense?

Trump? What are you Americans thinking?

  1. I don't claim to understand US politics at all, but it seems that he has been beaten in something! Does that mean he is out completely now, and we won't have to hear any more about him?

    2. Not at all, it just means has has been minimally humbled. He will move on to the East coast and start all over again. Each state has their own form of primary election to choose a leader for each party or independent. From there the general election will proceed next Nov. We will all be brain dead by then by listening to all the bs blather and bluster!!!

  2. Fingers and toes crossed this trend continues. Trump as President is a really scary thought.

  3. Elephants Child is right on the nail there, it is a very scary thought. The electorate are notoriously unpredictable though and some of his rhetoric will have a long reaching effect.

    1. You may be correct Sue. One must remember that the news media pick the sound bites with the most sharp edges. To get attention is the most important component here. I cannot find one candidate in any party worthy of my vote. I am considering going to ground, living off the grid, and going full-blown hermit. I will take my dog.

  6. John, John,Mehta about your follower count?

    I just hope that the Trump organization does figure out how to get organized in the ground. There is a lot more to winning that spouting poll figures, repeating meaningless sound bites (stopping something until they can "figure out what the hell is going on") and generally acting like a school yard bully.

    Am afraid that I can't get too enthusiastic about Cruz either...can you imagine someone in the UK going for a party leadership position saying they would "carpet bomb Syria?" It is a strange old world.

    Trump scares the jeeters out of some people.
    Grandma Hillary scares the shit out of me.

    5. He's a nut. Believe me, he will never win. Americans have elected some unlikely people in the past (Arnold Schwarzenegger comes to mind) but he's more in the Barry Goldwater mold and the mass of the electorate won't go for him. Even Republican moderates don't like him.

  10. I think the American people are sending a message to Washington by supporting someone like Trump who uses his own money or someone like Sanders who uses small donations and isn't "owned" by the Billionaires.Wake me up when the actual vote is taken in November!

      Someone needs to change their name to "none of the above" and get their name on the ballot, they'd win by a landslide.

      Seriously though, I'm an Englishman in the US and we were talking about the primary at work this morning. There was a lot of concern among the people there that there was nobody that they would vote for.

      Trump = plain crazy
      Cruz = scary crazy
      Clinton = devious career politician
      Saunders = well meaning but unrealistic

      Oh damn it I don't want to talk politics but I've done it :^(

  14. Well frankly anyone would be better than Trump but look at the final outturn... only one vote in the college difference this race is a very very long way from run yet.

    I'd love to see Bernie Saunders get in - oh the irony of that.... and if Corbyn got in here then UK/USA left wing socialist alliance ... My Dad will be turning in his grave at the thought!

  17. Cruz would not be an improvement over Trump... his family's religious beliefs include 50's standards. 1650's. They also believe that they and their fellows are ordained by God to be rulers of empires and principalities; that they are destined to create and rule a world-wide theocracy. Ever read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood? That will look like a cakewalk if these people ever get their hands on real power.

    The sky isn't falling; yet... I'm not laying odds against it, however.

    1. You are, of course, WRONG, Anne Marie in philly -- the child of an American citizen is an American citizen no matter where the child is born. This includes Ted Cruz (Canada), John McCain (Panama), and Barack Obama (your guess is as good as mine) because one of their parents was an American citizen. The myth of which you seem so certain is apparently unsquashable among the uninformed.

Hillary is untrustworthy and Sanders, though a really good guy, is not going to get his policies through in this country. This election season is like nothing we have ever seen here. CRAZY.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well this American is embarrassed by it all.
    Trump wasn't the "top" in the Iowa caucus . . .
    Personally . . . Cruz will never get my vote . . .
    Embarrassing to say the least . . .
    And the actions to try and manipulate for younger votes . . .
    A mess!

  36. Though either Trump or Cruz is like choosing cancer over a heart attack, I'd have to choose Trump because Cruz is crazy and a religious zealot. Both are mad/bad. Even the devout republicans I know don't like either one of them. They want Rubio or Kasich. Let's hope the republicans come to their senses and dump Trump and Cruz. Me, I love Hillary and have for many years.

  37. Iowa is the first state to vote. That's why it's such a big deal. The first state had been New Hampshire, which is the next battleground, but Iowa wanted more attention, true story, so they pulled up their caucases ahead of New Hampshire. Both are small states with small, rural populations. Things there are done by caucus, where voters registered as either Republican (boo) or Democrat (yay) gather as a group to form a consensus who they support. Hillary Clinton did well in early voting in 2008 and was beaten by Barack Obama, so there are miles to go before we sleep. I'm a Democrat, a Franklin Roosevelt, New Dealer Democrat. I'm more of a Socialist. I believe the rich and business and Wall Street and banks ought to be taxed and regulated more. I'm not satisfied being told that their accumulation of goods and money and services somehow benefits me. Roosevelt said we need to drive out the economic royalists (no offense intended) and it is just as true today. I only get biblical when it supports my particular belief at the time, but it reminds me of the money changers in the temple. We need someone to go in there, turn over the tables, scatter the money and kick the SOB's out of the doors of our Congress, our White House and our government.
    I think we Americans must look psychotic to the rest of the world. We pander porn in our films and entertainment, yet we have people who claim a moral highground. You have to be very careful of the messianic political types. I think Jesus and God have better things to do than whisper in their ears how we're all to behave. We talk about freedom and democracy yet had no issue fomenting political upheaval that suited our national interest, right or wrong. I couldn't believe Bush was elected, yet he was twice!! I would have been shocked had Romney won against Obama in 2008. We have a constitutional right to bear arms, going back to that little difference of opinion we had with GB in 1776, but now that right results in the slaughter of innocents. How does one balance it? I come down on the side of the underdog, the downtrodden, the innocent, the poor, the suffering, the hungry. Maybe that's the strength of America. We take the "wretched refuse of teeming shores" and we make the best of it.
    Anyway, I've recently decided to support Bernie Sanders. He's a socialist who is forced to run as a Democrat because the US is a two party system. Third party candidates as far back as Teddy Roosevelt don't succeed here. Does Sanders have a chance? Depends on which Republican survives their cannibalistic, vicious, nasty process. Can you imagine what kind of person you have to be to survive that?
    In the early 1930's, the folksy American humorist, Will Rogers, said he did not belong to an organized political party, that he was a Democrat. Seems things have changed this time and the Republicans can say that.
    Back to Roosevelt, again, he said "this nation will endure as it has endured". I believe that. In spite of all the grid lock and social elitism and economic disparity and hypocrisy, we will endure and we mean to do the right thing. We don't always pull it off, but I believe most of us want to do the right thing by our fellow man. It lies in figuring out how to do it, doesn't it?

  40. The comments above pretty much say it all, John. You wouldn't want to live in a place where Cruz is the CEO. I think one of the first thing he'll do is somehow overturn the gay marriage law, and bring back DOMA. I don't think you want that. The guy's a real horror show.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Would this be a fair summary of Cruz's policies:
    - The truth of marriage is one man and one woman
    - Make abortion illegal
    - Secure the border (presumably the southern one) "build a wall that works, triple border security, and put in place the surveillance and biometric tracking to secure the border."
    - Belives "The United States of America is the exceptional nation, the nation other countries aspire to be like."
    - Belives that American rights do not come from the government, they come from God"
    - Supports Kim Davis (the clerk who refused to issue same sex marriage licence)

    Enough there for me to think he is no better.

    It would be the selling of the White House again to the highest bidder. Every place Hillary went as Sectary of State money flowed into her and Bubba's pockets. Plus we would need a White House with a male only staff.
    Then there is Benghazi and her lack of any knowledge, understanding or compassion just covering her butt. Not to mention the e-mails.
    Many years ago I was a Hillary supporter because I thought all the garbage she lived through with good old boy bubba she would and could be a great advocate of the middle class but instead she has morphed into another good old boy.
    As a Democrat women my party has let me down again and again.
    Plus we need to get rid of the Electoral College.
    Trump is an blustering fool but there is a small truth in what he pontificates about. There is a huge amount of people who do not live on the liberalize East or West Coast who are paying through their taxes and livelihood for ill wasteful spending.
    No one listens to us and we are MAD AS HELL. So Trump has realized this and ran with it.
    There are no real choices again. The only hope is to elect a congress who will work for the people and stop pandering for money and vote buying.

Trump .. I cannot imagine this country living through him as a President .. and Clinton should never ever even be considered .. do they have to have prison ID photos for people to understand that ?
