Underdog

Sometimes an underdog lets rip.
Usually you can see such events on youtube.
Tonight, just before the start of the re run of The Walking Dead, underdog Scottish terrier, George
( the dog who has been last in the house pecking order all of his life ( and this includes the chickens, geese, sheep and pigs) finally asserted himself over the Mad- as- a- badger Mary during one of her " I'm going to rip your collar from around your neck" moments.
Mary had it coming.
For weeks she has ripped Winnie's cheeks without a murmur from the old bulldog and everyday William has put up with multiple nips and bites during some over the top horseplay, so tonight she pushed things too far and grabbed a mouthful of his Australian bandanna as he was minding his own business in the spare arm chair.
Nine year old George , with the lightening speed of a two year old, bounced off his chair and in a couple of seconds seriously kicked some Welsh Terrier puppy arse.
Mary wisely pretended to be dead as he effectively head butted her into the carpet.

Smiling I called him over to the sofa where he was ceremoniously lifted to top dog position, above Winnie, above William and above an astonished and now sulking Mary .........
He is there right now, smiling gently to himself as he sleeps the sleep of the just.
For once in his life George knows he's a hero

My favourite photo of George......a black dot flying above the beach

Good for George. Hopefully the memories will remain and he won't have to assert himself again for a while.

  7. Every dog has his day! I'm proud of George for finally having his. This is how puppies get schooled.
Love that picture. I have one somewhere of two of ours back when they were young, running on a beach, feet in the air, sand flying, great huge dog grins on their faces.

  14. Good for your boy and just as you commented about this on Facebook. Some people get upset when a puppy has this happen to them. But I feel strongly as I'm sure you do, that puppy's need to learn respect of other pack members. Even Todd had to learn that, and it's a lesson he's not forgotten, there are a couple of dogs that he knows better than to bother, despite their place in the pack.

  20. awwww Yea George. Of course you know how much I love George.
I love the photo of George flying over the sand.
One day I was over my brothers home and Watson was in the back yard running around with his dog. As we watched them Watson comes charging up to a huge branch and sails over it. Feet out and you could see dreams of glory in his eyes. Just like horses jumping over a hedge. Of course my brother breaks out laughing at the sight. I said to him when your legs are are 5 inches tall any jumping is a joy.
    I wish I had a photo.

    cheers, parsnip

  21. I'm so glad that George put that rowdy puppy in her place! She needs to show respect to her elders, even the most gentle of them all.

I've said it before, I love George the most out of all your dogs and I'm happy to hear he came out on top for once!

  22. I love George. This is part of dog behaviour establishing rank and order in the pack. Glad that he asserted his position in the pack.

  28. There are two horses in the field just below Haddock's, I think they're brothers. One of them is always bullying the other, and I just wish that one day he will have the guts to give turn the tide, and give the bully a really good kicking.

  29. Who would have thought the Darkhorse George won this battle! I'm always for the underdog. I guess that's why I pamper little girl Raja. The senior boys still have dibbs in my house. Ha😼

  31. Good for George - he's a hero. It's about time that Mary was put in her place. It's sweet, patient, Winnie we feel sorry for, those puppy nips on her jowls must be very painful, and Mary shouldn't be allowed to rule the roost. Try spraying her with water, using a spray bottle with a fine nozzle, next time she misbehaves. It won't hurt her, and may make her think twice. It worked well with a couple of our manic pups.

  36. Good old George. I often wonder why you seem to mention him less than the rest of the canine gang. Obviously he keeps in the background.
That is how pups learn so Mary has had an important lesson.

  45. While I love all your pups, George has always been my fave. I think it is the old man look of him. Mary has now learned her place in the pack. If even for just a few minutes. :)

  46. The first time I looked at that shot of George with Meg, my heart melted a little. Who knows why but like William, they make me think of steiff dogs. I bet George did it for Winnie as much as for himself, and to remind young Ms Mary that all is fun until it crosses the line. Good on you, George.

  48. I'm surprised a terrier would have put up with this nonsense for so long. They are usually in the middle of any skirmish. Peacekeeper or instigators.
