A Million Years Ago

I love Adele.
This 60s sounding track from her album 25 is terribly sad
It sounds like it comes from a musical, with the second female lead
singing it before her tragic death in act three.

    1. I thought exactly the same thing when I heard this track on the BBC special. It's a dead ringer for 'Yesterday when I was young'.

  5. I adore the woman's voice but doubt I could listen to that entire song without the aid of anti-depressants. Don't go James Blunt on us Adele!

  6. Some of them are quiet slow blues types but some are not .. Her voice is just so great .. it doesn't matter what the song is.

  7. I find her music far too melancholy, and (forgive me!) whiny. I can't listen to very much of it without thinking, "For f*ck's sake, either cheer up or shut up!" Sorry!

  8. I just popped by to wish you a very Happy New Year.

Adele does have a lovely voice, but I'm inclined to agree with Jennifer. I'd like to hear her sing something a bit more light and uplifting.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! (Well, that's what I came for...)

  9. Love her talent, but she's too young to be living in the past as she does. In every. Single. Song.

  11. I love a good cry and she delivers well!

  12. It's strange, some of her songs I really like and others I don't. Opposite reactions!

  13. She has a helluva singing voice, but a rather odd speaking voice. It's a good thing she can sing.

  14. I can't help but wonder what will happen if she gets happy, or realises all her songs are angsty and bitter. Like Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill. except that is an excellent album to do housework to because it is so full of energetic anger, not melancholy. Adele's voice however, just amazing.

  15. Oh well, each to their own.
Can't see what the attraction is. Liked the backing, but not her voice - she's a tuneless screecher. How often would you actually hum one of her songs after you've heard it?

    1. Exactly, C.G. You got it in one. Can't see why (nearly) everyone goes bananas for her with those indistinct enunciations and yellings. While as for her speaking voice and her laugh, I haven't experienced such grating since I last made cheese toast!

  16. I like some of her stuff, but LH bought me the album 25 for our anniversary, it was just a pity he forgot to buy me a pack of anti-depressants to go with it.

I think I'll wait for her Greatest Hits album before I buy anymore of her music!!

  17. I'd like to hear her trying "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands". She'd probably turn it into a funereal dirge though.

  18. I like Adele, and we have a couple of albums. She is a bit sad in her songs, but the is always Sister Sledge to get an upbeat feel if we want.

The fun of Christmas is over, the weather's horrible, and now, to put a top hat on it, you give us Adele, someone pass me the anti-depressants!

  21. Today I can't do sad - I will give it a listen in a few days. We had to put down one of our lovely cats this morning. Devastated to say the least, poor darling girl. Will chime in once my heart ache eases a wee bit.

    1. Oh, no, I'm so sorry for you - what an awful thing to have to do. Our pets steal our hearts, and losing them is devastating. We lost one of our dogs earlier this year, the first one ever to die "naturally" but still heart breaking to find him. Try some nice soothing instrumental music, this might help.

  22. Well, I'm late on the Adele train and I really only like "Hello". Because I can crank it up and belt it out in the car.

  23. I've only heard a couple of her songs but it didn't do much for me. That being said, I usually have to be bombarded with certain songs before I "suddenly" decide they are great. Someone mentioned about her stuff being depressing well "back in the day", I loved John Denver. He had such a beautiful voice and was a talented songwriter, but I realized after listening to most of his stuff I felt like throwing myself off a bridge so I stopped listening to him. Shame that. But you are a real softy John. Cheers and happy new year to you and the Prof. Anna

  24. Since she had the operation on her throat her voice has changed. I find I enjoy her better listening as an audience to her than with earphones in where her voice does sound quite harsh. Love the songs though. I heard her say to Graham Norton that she does not do tours in case she lets people down, could this be that she is worried her voice may go as it did before. Anyway there are certainly many people who have purchased her albums

    2. Ive just remembered that also on the Interview with Graham Norton she wrote this song about the years she used to hang around with her friends in a local park and all the fun they had. She misses being able to do this now that she is an adult plus being so famous has its restrictions also. Its about the loss of our Childhood freedom really. If you get the chance to see the interview it is really good

  27. I love Adele and the fact that she has such a pleasant personality, she doesn't put on airs in any of the interviews I have seen.
