  1. Lucky you, darling. Such a short list :) I know your "do not depress me" list would be thrice that.
And PS: I'm in agreement with you on at least 39 or that 43.

    2. When I saw Bowie on the list I assumed that had just GOT to be a mis-type for that Mariah Carey.

    3. I am with John, most certainly.

    1. Also the fashion for bustier style wedding dresses. Most brides, unless they,re supermodels, look better covered up.

  5. Being 30???!!

And, this is why you must make your gin and tonics yourself. (If you want something done right, etc etc)

  6. I can certainly agree with you on a number of those . I have also seen some women who have worn a backless dress with a normal bra. Why?????

    1. Coloured bras under see through tops ? exposed bits of bras anywhere !
      It's a fashion. I blame Erin Brockovitch ( the movie ).

  7. If being skint means being cheap I agree...especially when you don't have to.

  8. One year mother was forbidden to plant any tomatoes, as her previous year's garden had produced 80 bushels. She planted rutabaga instead. I think it was a vengeance thing.

Bowie being older makes you sad? Or is he? I'd better check myself. A late Australian Prime Minister's wife was on board Britannia when she visited here with Her Maj on board too. The PM's wife was asked what drink she was served and she replied, 'a luke warm gin and tonic without ice'. Not what one would expect on Britannia. I agree about the bra straps. They are just not meant to be seen.

  10. Being 30 makes you sad?? Try being 60. Hey ho.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Solution to the bra thing - don't wear one ...
70 is no blast either, just sayin'.

  12. I was doing well today, John. Now you reminded me of depressing things. Maybe I just need a cold gin and tonic.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 'A plastic glass'? Isn't that an oxymoron?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can agree with most of those, some are a bit left field. Why do plugholes make you sad?

Speaking of closeted gays, I've just come home from seeing the movie "Women he's undressed" about the Aussie designer Orry-Kelly who dressed all the great Hollywood stars. For a while he lived with Cary Grant, early in his career. Grant was firmly in the closet, Kelly most definitely was not. It's a brilliant film, you'd love it, John.

    1. Cary Grant was gay? I didn't know that.

  15. Muffin tops, the drought, people calling groups of women 'guys', being referred to as 'guy', knee pains, blurred vision, my bike jacket being mistaken for an invisible cloak...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Muffin tops ! Top of the list !

  17. Oh no this has set my mind a wandering........some of your list I agree with .. others not so much....will have to do a list myself or will that depress me? x ps did you get any shoes?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Your list is unnecessarily long John, nearly all of those things are covered by. or a result of, the 'getting old' issue.....anyone under 30 doesn't even *see* them, let alone be depressed by them....we're the same age you and I....we are entering our Victor Meldrew years...

    Agree with most of these.
The memory of the warm milk at school doesn't depress me - just makes me feel ill like it always did back then.
Very confused about the plughole thing. Explain?

  20. John this is so unlike you! Now lets have a list of things you like! There is so much bloody depressing news around at the moment we need to keep our spirits up. I'll start. Things that give me joy; a smile from a stranger, clean sheets, Saturday mornings, John's blog, crisp autumn mornings, home made apple pie etc; x

  21. Good God. I have an identical list! My mother listened to ''Sing Something Simple' after my father had walked out on us. If it hadn't been depressing before it took on a whole new resonance of despair!!!
If they ever revive it I may lose the will to live. Ah, but then there are always the dogs. Thank God! Thanks for all the lovely posts. Jan B.

  22. 'Sing Something Simple' - they always sounded bored out of their minds!

  23. Rhyl.....scene of many a miserable childhood holiday with my prima Donna mother

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ingmar Bergman should BE a mashed Swede ;-)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes! I love that you put the Ingmar Bergman movies together with the mashed Swedes - though it had me confused a minute. Are you doing a similar list of things that make you happy for tomorrow?

  25. Damn you….I now have " sing something simple" rattling round my brain . I used to hate that too…….not sure if it was just the sound they made, or the fact that it was school in the morning. ( I am going further back than the 70's here! ) I certainly agree with most of your dislikes.

  26. It is time for a second post. Happy days.xx

  27. David Bowie?!?

  28. Sing Something Simple AND Songs of Praise. The sound of the football results being droned out on Saturday evening TV, that and the bloody theme music to Coronation Street.

  29. Rhyl doesn't depress me, it terrifies me! I always keep the car door locked when travelling through. xx

  30. You must be the only gay man in Christendom who doesn't like tinsel. Maybe you need to try aversion therapy - an outfit made entirely of tinsel. It would look amazing when out walking the dogs.

    1. I'm gay and I don't like tinsel.

At least not when I'm sober.......

  32. I always try to remember, that the alternative to being over 30, is being gone way to soon in the grand adventure.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This time last week I was in the Shangri-La sipping cocktails....tonight I'm in my ugg boots eating thai take-away....now that's depressing ;-) Nx

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would say I agree with pretty much all...but at least you don't have bloody americian politics...
    Depressing and embarrassing !

    ReplyDelete
  35. Now we know your 'likes', John.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I pretty much agree on all counts. Is there anything sadder than a watery G & T in a plastic cup?

When we first adopted Olga, the rescue center had named her Tinsel. We changed that name RIGHT away!

    ReplyDelete
  37. All too negative John especially after your recent holiday. You must now post a list of all the things that cheer you up! Mind you I do agree with many of them - Christmas decs after Boxing Day and the Daily Mail for two.

I totally agree with the cinema comment.

  43. That list has got longer! I wrote a depressing poem on my blog today after being depressed reading about the things that depress you!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Women in sleeveless tops with their bras showing? What's depressing about that? But international news, the Daily Mail, dirty hotel rooms and stupid people who enjoy being rude - couldn't agree more.

    Plugholes????

  45. You are suffering PHD - Post Holiday Depression - looking at the holiday photos with the perfect GnT and your man will help xx

  46. I'm certainly with you on Arriva trains Wales! By the time they reach Carmarthen station it is quite often just ONE carriage (two on high days and holidays) and one I travelled on last winter had no heating to speak of. When eldest daughter is travelling on them, they turn being late into an art form.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh dear, after reading about your frequent farting, I think I am depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  48. What a depressing post, I'll pass on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Things that depress me:

People who believe things they cannot possibly know to be true
People who kill other people because they believe things
Children being abused and hurt and killed
    Illness and suffering
    Humans
The brutal nature of natural life
Lists entitled "Things that depress me"

  50. Oh, you make me laugh----and think. and enrich my vocabulary. Had to look up skint. And i want a scotch egg, even though I don't know what that is. If I ever see it on a menu, I'm ordering three!
