Camilla bombed

Always concentrate on what you are doing where animals are concerned.
It's a good lesson that not always remembered.
The phone went early this morning and as expected it was Olwen who told me that Bob had died peacefully.
I went out to sort the animals out and got to thinking how awful it is for anyone who has lost a loved one when the sun shines and the world looks as though it is going on as normal.
We have all been there have we not?
On the surface everyone else's life is unchanged when your reality has crumbled
My thoughts are for Olwen and her family today.

It was this preoccupation that made me sloppy this morning.
For after emptying the goose house, I crawled inside , grabbed this morning's laid eggs and stuck my head back out , squinting into the sun.
Then Something  smacked me very hard in the eye

Hell hath no fury than a broody Canada Goose called Camillla Parker Bowles

Sorry to hear of your friends passing John.....and very glad Camilla's aim is a little off or your eye could be in a lot worse shape.

  9. Very sad news; no wonder you were distracted. Perhaps you should wear goggles and hard hat when you go egg collecting.

  11. Yes, the world keeps turning. But when my mother died late last year I found little things in that ongoing pattern of life that were oddly comforting.
Have you not got the measure of that goose by now? xx

  21. I am sure it was a kiss of affection - nay love.

One of the hardest things to bear when there is the death of a loved one is the world going on as before.

  26. It's the loneliest feeling in the world when personal tragedy strikes and everyone around you is carrying on with a normal ho-hum day.

I,too, am glad to hear that your friend slipped away peacefully in his own bed with his loved one at his side. May we all be so lucky.

  28. There was a song written about exactly that, "The End of the World" by Nina Gordon I think....
Quite unpleasant thing for the goose to do, but if I caught you rummaging in my fridge I might do the same.

  29. As I petted one of my male geese one spring day, he grabbed one of my fingers and clamped down. It was like a vise grip, I couldn't get my finger out of his mouth no matter what I tried. It was very painful. Guess he got it back when coyote bit him up.

  30. All sympathy to you and to Bob's closest on his parting. Such events always pulls one up short (at the very least), providing food for serious reflection.

Maybe Camilla's taking on some of the impatience that her namesake must be feeling while trying to look as though she's just biding her time as Queen-in-Waiting. And, dammit, it's turned into a right royal long wait!

  38. Camilla isn't homophobic is she? My brother was assaulted while walking his dogs a short while ago…..he says it was ostensibly about dogs barking, but was undoubtedly a homophobic attack. He was " nutted" and fell to the ground. He suffered a week of concussion and the court case is in September. Luckily a lady witnessed the whole thing and is prepared to stand up in court.

  41. I'll bet Bob would have loved this story about Camilla. Curious minds want to know......Did you manage to keep from dropping the egg during the goose attack?

  42. Always expect the unexpected! Especially where animals are concerned...

As you say, it's most disorientating when you're grief-stricken and the rest of the world just seems to carry on as normal.

  43. So sorry to hear of your friend's passing, I'm glad it was peaceful.

You should know by now always to come out of a goosehouse backwards, yes they still peck occasionally .... but the bruises are not visible for most people to see ;-)
