Now I don't even know the difference between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday,
Shows just how much RE did for my general knowledge at school eh?
Today is Palm Sunday and Chris's Church warden role went up a gear as the vicar wanted him to don some suitably impressive robes for the occassion. The three Church congregations from Trelawnyd, Dyserth and Cwm in the Parish got together at St Michaels for the service and I was asked to turn up at the end to take the " group" photo.
It's become a bit of a yearly tradition.
The service was a fairly long one so I took the dogs for a walk in the torrential rain. The village was deserted.
Affable despot Jason craned his head out of his bedroom window and called me a lunatic for being out as I passed by his house and next door the small congregation at the Ebeneezer Chapel could be heard singing their Easter hymns in Welsh.
I would have stopped to listen if the weather hadnt been so bad.
The church was just chucking out when I got back and there was quite a crowd leaving the porch each person clutching their palm Sunday crosses.
I saw Mrs Trellis, who is still dreadfully low after the loss of Sooty , and asked if she would like to take William out when she goes for her daily walk.
She said she'd see.
A few people from Dyserth that I dont really know stopped to congratulate me on our wedding which I thought was kind, and as the congregation left, I went to take the photos
Anyhow here is a couple action shots of the boys
The vicar's relaxed

Very tv celebrity!
How well I remember those Palm and Easter Sundays, Ash Wednesdays, Shrove Tuesdays and Maundy Thursdays. I'm an "old" Anglican and it's at this time of the year that I actually miss the tradition of those churches. Was Sooty a dog? Poor Mrs Trellis...
ReplyDeleteRemember we nicknamed Mrs Trellus dog satan ..his real name was sooty
Deletechris looks rather fetching there in his official robes.
ReplyDelete:-( for mrs trellis.
Chris's slippers of a few posts ago would go well with that outfit.
ReplyDeleteThey all have them on andrew...its a cult
DeleteChris gets out his severe look for Palm Sunday. Did they have a donkey in the Church as is traditional for Palm Sunday? The chapel music would have been sombre because it is the start of Holy Week. Easter isn't here yet. Here endeth the religious lesson for today.
ReplyDeleteThanketh you

ReplyDeleteI don't know why that comment appeared twice. (And I hope this one doesn't). Your blog does odd things with comments sometimes
DeleteI swear your husband has one of the finest moustaches I've ever seen outside the RAF in war time. Professor Chris 'Wing Commander' Burton Gray.
ReplyDeleteGe was pleased by that comment
DeleteNice red robes, great pictures, I never have been any good at taking pictures of people. Not that I cut heads off or anything, but people always look uncomfortable in the pictures. You got the vicar to relax.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it was the communion wine?
DeleteAgree with Travel above - everyone looks nice and relaxed. I seem to remember a similar photograph last year too. What a lovely community you live in - but then I expect it is because you two are part of the community - after all it is made up of all the component parts isn't it.
ReplyDeleteRegal indeed! Chris looks very serious.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a little girl, I loved Palm Sunday -- that is until the Rector gave sermon explaining that the crowds cheering Christ with hosannas and waving palms, were really a mob that soon set out to crucify him! So now, I avoid the main service with the endless procession and opt for the 8.30 early service. Today was even earlier thanks to the time change! Nice pictures, John. The Vicar as a lovely face ...
ReplyDeleteHe'll be chuffed with that comment
DeleteNice shots! Yes, the vicar knows which is his "best side!"
ReplyDeleteHe's a professional!
DeleteYour husband is very handsome.
ReplyDeleteAction shots indeed.
ReplyDeleteChris's outfit is so cool! You could get your own matching outfit from

Then you could stroll out together on the prom at Rhyl. You would be bound to get many admiring glances.

ReplyDeleteOh Chris , i wish you hadnt
DeleteOh I missed the wedding! Congratulations. Hope it didn't rain for that. What am I saying? It always rains in Wales ...
ReplyDeleteI usually try to be in prison for Palm Sunday so i get a palm cross but missed it this year.
I've noticed my hands of late. Brown spots! How old is that? A new wedding ring must improve the sight.
As previously mentioned Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week; next Sunday is Easter. It's a very busy time in many Christian churches, and this is one of the times on the church's liturgical calendar where there many services during this week: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, when they strip the altar bare and have none of the Sacrament reserved, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and then Easter Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in choir, Holy Week always felt like a bit of a marathon.
I thought your man looked real cute!
ReplyDeleteBless them one and all.
ReplyDeleteYour husband needs a monocle to go with the mustache....
ReplyDeleteDr Chris has perfect posture!
ReplyDeleteThe vicar's a natural poser :-)
