A Low Level Mugging

Its been a kind of bad news sort of day today
In addition to yesteday's news, Chris had a near miss accident in the Berlingo early this morning andI've just heard that two other villagers have been
poorly in hospital.
Best wishes to Yola and to Bob D...
Who live on opposite parts of the village but have been admitted to the same ward!
It was all a bit doom and gloom.

Things brightened up somewhat on the beach this afternoon
when I took the dogs along the Promenade.
As usual Winnie and George walked a long way behind me and the Welsh
but as there was only a middle aged picnicking couple sitting on the concrete steps down to the beach
I left them to it.
When I got back to the car, Winnie and George had still not caught up
so I walked back to the beach only to see both dogs standing behind
the couple. I called them and both ambled over guiltily
Winnie had what looked like a golf ball in her mouth
Immediately I knew just what had happened
and prepared myself to give a swift and heartfelt apology

For a low level mugging had just taken place

Winnie wasn't holding a discarded tennis ball
For firmly clamped in her mouth
Was a large bread roll- ham and tomato sandwich
( complete with lettuce, mayo and onion)

BTW
ONLY A WEEK UNTIL THE WEDDING!
Thank you Libby, Cro and Deloras for your gifts and cards
Xxxxxx

  1. In my youth I had a German Shepard that liked to eat cigarettes....he would snatch them from smoker's hands and eat them on the spot.

  3. Ah, I was going to ask you if it was this week or next! Thanks for the update. I expect you to be giddy as a schoolgirl all this week. Oh, and if Chris starts acting giddy, please post a photo or video, as I can't even imagine what that might look like.

  5. I think both of you should exercise extreme care in the next week, having something as exciting as your wedding on your minds leaves all sorts of accidents possible.

    As for Winnie's mugging ... she's a naughty girl ... I hope she didn't snatch!!

  12. Things seem to come in clumps, do they not? Get-well wishes for your villagers in the hospital, and condolences to your bereaved neighbour. And tell Chris (and yourself) to be careful out there! You have a lot on your minds! And don't forget to feed the animals - Winnie was obviously fending for herself due to an empty bowl at home ;0

I want lots and lots of pictures of your wedding, please. I can't attend but I want to feel like I was there.

  14. Glad Chris and the Berlingo are OK! Hope your neighbors have a speedy recovery. That Winnie is a little mess. Did she actually steal the roll or did she give them the sad eyes and they just gave it to her!

I know you are excited about the upcoming nuptials. I cannot believe time has gone by so fast. Like the others, please post a lot of pictures. I wish I could be there!

  21. Our last dog did something very similar. We were watching our son playing in the kiddies play park while holding the dog on the lead. A couple were sitting on a picnic rug nearby enjoying their lunch. Our dog lunged forward and took a bite out of the man's sandwich midway to his mouth. He didn't seem too bothered and was about to continue eating but his wife was having a total meltdown, screaming something about germs etc. I did offer to buy them more lunch but she was going off her head so we quietly moved away. That same dog also very gently removed a Rich Tea biscuit from a baby's hand while he was sitting in a pram. And she really was a very good dog, normally!

  22. I thought "the Berlingo" must be a club - just looked it up and see it's a vehicle! Can't say I've seen them over here. Anyway, glad he wasn't clubbing, and that he missed getting hurt with the big day so close!

Is Winnie not happy with the food at home?
Bet those picnickers found it hard going sharing one sandwich!

  24. A similar thing happened with one of my dogs walking through a park . Maisy (the roast dinner stealing Doberman) was walking happily on the lead next to me and I happened to look at her to see a large hamburger in her mouth .No idea where it came from . Another time , another walk and Maisy found in the park a "bong" , which she was happily carrying in her mouth!!!!! So excited about the wedding . xxxx

  27. A week, wow! Glad Chris was okay, but the universe is certainly make you jump through hoops just now.
We have a food-stealer as well... I learned to keep Lily in her crate when cooling fresh-baked bread. She got out once and ate two warm loaves and a stick of butter; the furry brat.
Condolences to the bereaved family, and well wishes for those doing poorly.

  29. Our family's first dog, Angel, was a gentle soul and loved food. On several occasions, I watched as she waited until a child holding a popsicle would turn his head to look at something and she'd gently wrap her tongue around the popsicle, tug it just a tad, and it would come off the stick. By the time the child turned around, she was licking her lips, and all traces of the popsicle were gone.

  32. I think you already know this, but as a relatively new reader to your blog (introduced by Ms Moon who I've read for years), I must tell you your writing style is mesmerizing. That sounds funny and a little dramatic to say but every other word I think to use doesn't quite do it justice. I'm enjoying getting to know you, Chris, the hounds, and the village. Cheers!
