I adore my feet being rubbed...it has been a lifelong passion. If no massage is forthcoming from the academic, I will content myself with a good licking by one of the dogs.
Dogs love cheesy feet!
Years ago now, I was a reflexology " volunteer". My good friend Joy and her classmates were studying for their massage exams and needed a regular pair of feet to practice on almost on a daily basis.
I was more than happy to be their guinea pig, having my feet rubbed then was the idea panacea to the world's stresses of running a busy spinal injury ward.
One evening, I went round to Joy's house for a " rub" and got allocated to one of her new colleagues who needed some extra practice. The trainee reflexologist turned out to be a shy British Telicom workman called Charlie who had just started his training . He looked slightly awkward as I was his first " client" and he made a point of saying that all his "practical" work had been done on his wife.
Anyhow, off he went squeezing and rubbing and being the ideal reflexology model, I gave him feedback and asked appropriate questions of his technique.
Now, I never fully understood the science behind reflexology, all I know is that it feels bloody good.....so after Charlie had given my heels a particularly thorough seeing too, I made a point of complementing him by saying
" that was bloody amazing!..you could do that to me all day"
Charlie blushed and looked particularly awkward
But I pressed on regardless
" what part of the body corresponds to the heel area" I asked...trying to sound like the ideal student
Charlie coughed and looked uncomfortable
And Joy, who was rubbing another volunteer's feet nearby, leant over and stage whispered the answer into my ear
" your BUTTOCKS," she said with a smile!
I closed my eyes and tried to look invisible for the rest of the session

Ha ha that could explain why my heels are cracked.
ReplyDeleteRub some moisturizer in them! Tee hee
DeleteLOL oh the life and times of John Gray :)
ReplyDeleteSounds more interesting than I am, remember it's the best bits of 50 years I am remembering
Deletegafaw love it talk about put your foot in it (or feet)
ReplyDeleteI HATE having my feet touched! I was a guinea pig for a budding reflexologist once (had to grit my teeth) and I must say that her assessment very accurate
ReplyDeleteGill
I love my head massaged too
DeleteI thought everyone knew that. I always have my buttocks massaged if I have tired feet.
ReplyDeleteAnd the case for defense rests m'lord
DeleteI should - in my defence - say that my feet only get tired when kicking arse.
DeleteI, too, could have my feet rubbed all day.
ReplyDeleteI compressed a vertebra whilst skiing in France. Once on the ward one of the doctors came around and tried to get a foot reflex. I'm guessing he didn't get the right spot for the reflex, and my attitude was "that feels good". I barely spoke French then and he couldn't speak English, but it was clear from the look on his face he was convinced I was paralyzed.
A kindred spirit!
DeleteGreat story! I wonder how the areas of the feet affect the body. It must be something like acupuncture.
ReplyDeleteI think it's something similar john..... And it works!
DeletePoor guy....wonder if he stayed at it after working on you? :)
ReplyDeleteHaha. ;-)
DeleteLess of the ' Ha ha's" susie
DeleteDon't tell my Susie what to do.
DeleteI had the treatment done last year and it was brutal....my feet are so ticklish every time the poor woman touched me I'd jerk away in reflex.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the wee man who worked on you continued on with his training.
I was complementary about his work!
DeleteLOL! Nothing better in my books than a good foot rub!
ReplyDeletePoor Charlie! I bet he 'grew up' that day, John.
Funny how the comments are slip for the FOR and AGAINST
DeleteYou must have never had a sibling who found great joy in tickling your feet till you almost convulsed when you were a child. Believe me, that can leave scars. Even talking about pedicures or foot messages make me queasy. However, a butt message, hmmm.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a butt massage!
DeleteWorks well for releasing the Pirifomis muscles (the ones that grip the sciatic nerve in the buttock) I always use talc never oil for obvious reasons
DeleteI suffer from sciatica , perhaps it's time to start
DeleteSwedish sports massage the way forward then! using deep friction to encourage those muscles to let go of that nerve... That was not meant to sound like a ........ oh never mind....
DeleteLike some others here, my feet are extremely ticklish -- the only person who can massage my feet is me -- didn't notice it ever did anything for my butt though!
ReplyDeleteGet someone to rub your heels.........then you'll know!
DeleteInteresting post, John. I would be thrilled with any kind of massage... even if it was my butt.
ReplyDeleteSharon
DeleteIf you were closer , I'd give you a rub down
Mmmmm, a foot massage, I could snooze just thinking about it! A butt massage? Well, it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Ha ! I love reflexology too but my it can be painful.
ReplyDeleteI cant bear my feet being touched. if someone was to touch my feet when I am asleep, they would get a kick in the head. its a reflex. I cant stand it.
ReplyDeleteplus feet are ugly and a lot of the time mangled in some way. yuck blech gag
I'm with you on foot massage.
ReplyDeleteI could have my feet massaged or tickled all day long and never get tired of it.
A visit to the chiropodist is absolute heaven so I might have to seek out a reflexologist now...........
ohhh can we talk about the walking dead now please I am fit to burst. I think that might have been the best episode yet. its about time they went into survival of the fittest mode
ReplyDeleteOk sol..........I'll post something a little later xx
DeleteOMG *Squeal* no one at work gets it
DeleteFoot massage is wonderful! Actually, all massage is. I simply love it! My hairdresser does a very nice massage to my scalp every time I go there, and like you have said to the trainee reflexologist, I often say to her that she could do this to me all day (if it weren't for a few other things needing attending to). Thankfully, RJ is very good at giving back and shoulder massages, and I don't even need to ask him for one, he usually volunteers, which is VERY nice of him.
ReplyDeleteI always leave here with a laugh, John. The only person who can massage my feet properly is The Hurricane. She took care of my feet when I worked in the nursing home. Them was the days.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Our house is now ringing to the cry of 'Amanda, get yer feet out!'
ReplyDeleteThank the Lord, John: I have just found an opening to your heart, my unique selling point, one over Chris.
ReplyDeleteIn an idle moment many years ago I learnt all about pressure points. Not that I made it my profession. Boy oh boy, everyone in my vicinity was in seventh heaven - not least my son (his feet tiny at the time) enjoyed being practiced on.
As an aside: You can tell a lot about people by how pliable their feet are.

Very funny. My one experience with massage (excluding the one's in Thailand in '67) was when a buddy's girl did what she called 'rolfing' on my back. I was in the worst pain afterwards.
ReplyDeleteWhile not the same thing as Charlie's feeling of awkwardness, some time back one of my daughter's asked me what I thought of this friend of theirs....I said 'He's really cute." The two women looked at me for a moment, then one said "Um, dad? Is there anything you want to tell us?"
My mouth knows nothing of societal norms it seems.
My feet used to be very ticklish, even after growing up barefoot in Florida when they were rather calloused. However, I quickly learned that a proper foot massage did NOT tickle and felt so very good! After my first pedicure, given at one of those many mani-pedi shops, I was in love! The fabulous foot and leg massage was the high point of the visit!
