For Sol- The Walking Dead

Happy Days
The Walking Dead is now heading towards the end of its fourth series, and one of its most popular characters has been finally allowed to act in between zombie head stabbing and " it's behind you" horror shocks. Carol ( Melissa McBride) has been an unlikely survivor from the very first episode. Her psychological journey from battered and helpless housewife to a flawed but much stronger member of " team prison" has had fans rooting for her, so it was with interest that I watched Carol's stand alone episode entitled " The Grove"  last night.
In it Carol had to finally deal with the psychological damage inflicted on the child survivors of the apocalypse and her realization that 12 year old  Lizzie had to be " put down" because she has been transformed into a troubled and mentally ill killer was heartbreaking to watch
McBride is a rare creature in the horror genre for  she is an actress of some depth and range. Destined to be killed off in an earlier series, she has developed a huge fanbase through brief but telling time on screen and I am glad that the producers have developed her character rather than kill her off in favour of a younger and bustier Buffy-the- zombie killer .

  1. I was also waiting for your comments on that episode.
Wasn't upset about the Carol and the (as you pegged her earlier) the budding serial killer. Was really pissed and upset about young bright one. (trying not get into 'spoiler' territory here!)

    1. It's ok carol...... It's been shown, so all fair game...... Yes mika's death was so sad... But I must admit I will miss Lizzie.... The actress that played her was a talented little madam

    2. I totally agree re: actress Lizzie. Hopefully she'll pop up again soon in another good series.
And re: Carol/Melissa - also totally agree, plus the character has a great name!

  2. Technical point: In order to get the flash coming from the muzzle of a gun in the film world - particularly machine guns - they have to sync the sound with the frames. Maybe - at 25000 digital frames per second these days - they don't have to, but Scarface had to. It used to cost a lot of money.

  3. You should so try to find The Talking Dead episode online that aired after it. She was the guest and she was visibly moved and shaken by watching it over again. She is incredible, and that interview only made me love her even more.

Wow, what a powerful and amazing yet heart wrenching episode that was. There are only two episodes left so I can't imagine where they are going and how they will leave us hanging for six months.

    2. Totally agree. At times she was visibly uncomfortable discussing the episode. At the risk of sounding too North American, it was almost as is she could use a good counselling session after the work day.

    3. Yes, I got that impression as well, that she was uncomfortable talking about it and talking about the girls. She even dropped a little gem when asked about 'how do you not take this home?' and she replied something along the lines of "who says I don't?" and then nervously laughed and changed the subject a bit.

Heck, I have still be thinking of it 2 days later and I didn't have to 'live it' by acting it, ha.

  5. After my husband watched that episode, he came to our room where I was watching something innocuous. I have never seen him so "down". He told me what happened in the episode, and he was really surprised and depressed. Bless him.

  7. OMG!!!!! This is the first episode in a long time when I thought, that is exactly what I thought would really happen and about time. Evil aren't I.

it had all become a bit shaky and a bit tinny in the plots for a few episodes, for sure the last one with Daryl in was blah. Daryl deserves some better show time. And are they giving Rick a holiday or what? Gone from leader to no one....?

Am hoping for some real action in the next 2 to come.

    Bring it on!!!!

    Love it John, Love it!!!

(sorry deleted the other one, I cant spell tonight)

    1. Carol has developed into a flawed but believable leader
I love her character... She is more rounded.. As Is daryl,
My fav characters are her, daryl, Maggie, Tara and strangely enough Bob

  8. We figured Carol was going to deal with Lizzie but, never expected Lizzie to kill Mika, before-hand. And, I had it pegged she would tell Tyrone she killed his love. Of course, she allowed him to see how a decision like that was made when Lizzie's actions needed to be dealt with. Very good episode.

    2. Dammit. Tyreese. I knew I had the name wrong. Oh well. Yeah, they were making eyes at each other. BUT, what will Daryl say IF they ever join back up. Or, is he and Beth going to hook up? Or, neither.

    3. Daryl is asexual ( unfortunately )
I think carol and tyreese will have a doomed relationship

  12. Great season.......poor Lizzie and Mika. I think the loss of Hershel was worse - he had knowledge and wisdom which is now forever lost.
Wait a sec, guys; this is only a t.v. show, right........?

  13. I knew Carol would deal with Lizzie, she is the one who culls out the problem people...kinda in a way. I love Carol's character a mature woman who has been able to overcome many of the pitfalls of being the weaker one in a relationship... and I'm glad she is going to be around longer, I am wondering what Terminus is going to be like, and do you think Daryl is gonna give up his rabbit? lol
