I love the fact that Lupita Nyong'o's brother bounced into the photo |
With Russia acting like a knob and more conflict in the Middle East than we can shake a stick at..is it a surprise to anyone that Ellen Degeneres' " let's have a proper laugh" comparing of the Oscars has been seen by more people on earth than all the major bad news stories put together?
I love the above selfie
It speaks volumes
With it, Degeneres, quite cleverly, has stripped away the catty persona of Hollywood and brought a real humour back into a business that is famous for its " knife in the back" Babylon.
What do the Oscars give Joe Public?
Well it gives glamour
It gives escapism
And with Ellen at the helm
It gives a genuine smile
Not a bad result given all the badness in this bloody awful world eh?
If these awards shows were hosted by anyone other than a comedian, they would be unwatchable in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI love Ellen...she's the best.
Agreed she has a warmth and an honesty I find attractive
DeleteTotally agree with you both
DeleteIf you follow Frugal in Suffolk, her Google is not working today, so she is not in contact. She asked me to pass this on.
DeleteThankyou, I was concerned that she was unwell. Good to hear it's just a google blip!
DeleteI love her honesty, kindness, and the fact she's also a vegan (yay!).
ReplyDeleteJane x
I loved the show and thought the selfie was a brilliant move. So was the pizza delivery, and they gave the delivery man $1,000. He must have been pretty shocked.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
I've always liked Ellen and Russia is acting like a total 'knob' isn't it?
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmm ….. I agree up to a point John. What I don't like is the ' What are you wearing ' and, ' how much are those diamonds dangling from your ears ' part !! I do find that part a little obscene in times of recession and, they also get to take home a goody bag worth about $80 thousand !!
ReplyDeleteThere's no sour grapes, I promise …… just think it comes across really vulgar. At least we pretend not to lack sophistication or good taste at The BAFTA's !!!!
I have loved watching The Oscars since I was quite young and, I think that Ellen did a great job ….. loved it when she ordered pizza for everyone and, I was pretty suprised when everyone tucked in …… I thought that they only ate lettuce leaves !! XXXX
Jac
DeleteI think my point centers around the fact that Ellen concentrates on the simple
The excess of the oscars is well known
This year it feels just a tad different
Yes …. you are right …. I just have this thing about ' Who are you wearing ' and it takes over !!!!! XXXX
DeleteI bet they all eat lettuce leaves in the run up to the night, then it's pizzas and carbs all round till the next ceremony and red carpet beckons :-)
DeleteShe's quite simply the best -- fun and takes herself and the whole celebrity thing so lightly.
ReplyDeleteShe is simply adorable, kind and generous. The planet would do well to take her example.
ReplyDeleteLove this photo. I just spoke to my kids in class about how it was an example of viral marketing. But as you say ~ fun and goodwill too.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact she used a Samsung and not a dumb i-phone !
ReplyDeleteand I also love the brother jumping in.
I don't watch the Oscars ever since Barbara Streiisand fiasco "The Prince of Tides" won best picture.
But I did catch the last half hour this year and saw the last three awards given out. Ellen looked like she was having a good time.
cheers, parsnip
I like how Angelina is waving like that. Not her normal Oscar look. Most of the peeps in that photo are low ego, which helps! Bradley Cooper does awesome impersonations...Google that when you are bored. He's very good.
ReplyDeleteBradley Cooper - I want to hang out with him some time!
DeleteDoesn't everyone?? Haha.
DeleteSusie you beat me to it. I would like to do more than hang out! lol
DeleteLupita and her brother were the best part of the Oscars , IMHO
ReplyDeleteNot bad at all! I just showed my husband this photo as he didn't see the show with me. I love Ellen (though her little snipe at Liza kinda made me cringe) and this photo is friggin adorable. Jared and Lupita's speeches made me tear up.
ReplyDeleteFirst time in decades I haven't fallen asleep during an Oscar's show or snapped off the TV in irritation. I think we have Ellen to thank for that....it was so low key compared to other past hosts.
ReplyDeleteI think we can all agree that Ellen comports herself with dignity. She never gets the laugh at someone else's expense. I can relax and enjoy her and know that the whole family can enjoy it too. She is a lady...
ReplyDeleteThere can't be too many generous smiles in the world, so any one is welcome, no matter on whose face.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I know nothing of Miss Degeneres, and even less of the Oscars.
ReplyDeleteSame here Cro!
DeleteAnd me!
DeleteNumber Four in the club, that's me!
DeleteI make it five, will now have to google Miss Degeneres.
DeleteI'll do a Liza and go to the back on this one.
ReplyDeleteGee, they actually look genuinely happy.
ReplyDeleteYes, who could deny them a wonderful, glitzy night out? Also, Lupita is so bloody gorgeous, and has a name which rhymes with 'Blue Peter' - plenty of scope for limericks. 'Russia acting like a knob' - it took about 1000 words to say that in my last post. I ought to take a leaf out of your book.
ReplyDeleteI love that this slightly failed comedian who made a clever but shelved sitcom became one of the world's most popular talk show hosts, and she does it without pretending to be anyone but herself. the dancing always makes me giggle. And to think millions of ordinary women idolise a lesbian vegan, that is is genius! Good on her!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI loved when the pizza guy came in and she started passing out the slices....then was trying to find anyone with cash for the poor guy!
ReplyDeleteI really do love this picture, although I'm kinda pissed that she cropped me out of it.
ReplyDeletedon't watch award shows but sure do love Ellen and the joy she brings...
ReplyDeletelove Ellen and Portia. THey are lovely together
ReplyDeleteAnd with the handsome Bradley Cooper at the forefront, it's not a bad picture. Plus, it's my understanding that the re-tweeting of the picture has raised $3M for charity (though I'm not positive about that).
ReplyDeleteYou got to love Ellen. She is a very funny and very kind lady. She made what is usually a glamorous, boring, long show into something fun to watch. The actors looked like they were enjoying themselves also.
