There's alot of things that I dont know.
I didn't know until last week that gay marriage was "legal" in the UK from midnight tonight.
I didn't know that the word fiancée only referred to the bride-to-be and not the groom!
(I only learnt this one out at 6.00am this morning after Chris was bellowing
" there's a sloppy turd on the living room carpet!"
and I answered with a rather pathetic
" what a charming thing to shout at your fiancée so early in a morning "
Funny what you find out when you look for it.
For a couple that have been blundering through their second decade together, getting "hitched" was always on the cards at some stage in our lives. .I just had to come to the conclusion that it was up to me to "organise"
Everyone has their own roles in a relationship
and I am the "organiser" at home
I am bred for the role as I love making out lists.
So the date and venue for the ceremony with close friends and family has been booked.
(It will a long awaited delight for both our families to get together at one time) and my sisters and sister in law have been squealing a great deal about hat wearing and will be conscripted to help organise some of a bigger bash in the village on the following day.
A gay civil marriage party in the Memorial Hall eh?
That wil be a first for Trelawnyd!
Anyhow dear readers, you won't hear too much about the nuptuals for a while. All the fine tuning bits need tweaking, overtime shifts need booking and winifred needs a drastic bout at weightwatchers before she can fit into that bridesmaid dress I bought for her last year, Suffice to say, the day has been set!
And do you know what?
Despite the vagaries of living with a man who bellows about stools on the living room carpet at some ungodly hour in the morning.
Getting Married is the perfectly right thing to do!
I would never have contemplated it with anyone else

We got married at Mold Register Office in secret, there was only us and two witnesses! Afterwards, we ate at Hickory's Smokehouse in Chester and then buggered off to Rome for four days.
ReplyDeletecongratulations Hannah.... I shall ammend the flower show minutes accordingly!
DeleteThank you! We've been together almost ten years so it made sense, especially with our upcoming move and a baby on the way!
DeleteIs it not the case that fiancee with 2 es is the female form and fiance with 1 is the male form - both being past participles of the original French, possibly afficiancer ( I have no access to accent fonts or indeed, any specialist knowledge of French) meaning promised or betrothed?
ReplyDeletePretty sure you're right on this. Fiance for the male, fiancee for the female.
DeleteLooking forward to seeing Winifred in a bridesmaid dress!
I organised our registry office wedding 24 years ago. It was simple but lovely.
This is correct.
DeleteSo that means YOU were correct, too, John :)
Perhaps Cro will enlighten us
ReplyDeleteI thought the same as Rural Reeds! Exciting times!
ReplyDelete"Turd in the lounge" is the morning rally call in this house!!
Me too...I too thought there was a male form (one e) and female form (two ee). Anywhoo...congratulations to both of you and I await photos, especially of Winifred in her bridesmaid dress and the other dogs in their tuxedos :D
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I couldn't be more delighted xx
ReplyDeleteOh and yes....we have a similar call every day..."Willow (one of our cats) has pooed in the conservatory" She is now 11 years old and has never used the litter tray for solids, always choosing to go near to it but not in it. No problem with weeing in there so not sure what that is all about !!!!
ReplyDeleteOne of our cats always used the tray for wees, but always seemed to point her rear end out of the 'doorway' and splash all over the floor!
DeleteI thought our old girl was the only one! In her fourteen years with us she has never pooed in the box, always next to it! And if you don't clean up quick next one is further away.I even tried two boxes, no go.She thankfully wees in the box.Cats.
Deletecongratulations!!!
ReplyDeletei await photos :)
Oooooh! Can't wait for a slice of the cake, even though I'll not be allowed to eat it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful news. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteAren't you mixing up 'civil partnership' with 'marriage'? Surely you will simply be getting MARRIED; civil partnerships will now become old hat!
ReplyDeleteNo idea about fiancées; I skipped that bit, and just got married in Gibraltar.
Yes married is the word for it cro
ReplyDeleteSounds like a shotgun wedding to me, with you doing the organising and all.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see Aunty Gladys's hat!
DeleteFinancee is only for woman? I am not too young to learn. It needs some clarification.
ReplyDeleteWhile my sister married her girlfriend in the brief period it was legal in Australia, I have never understood the need for gay marriage, or a commitment ceremony unless you are a star eyed couple of twenty year old bois.
Nevertheless, I won't rain on your parade and I am sure it will be a wonderful day and I wish you both good luck.
PS I feel so old and out of touch after writing the above.
This is wonderful news! I hope that we see your wedding photos on this blog, unless you've signed up with a Hello magazine exclusive! x
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a decision well made .... and about bloody time!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fiancée for the girl and fiancé for the boy, that's what I always thought anyway.
We organised our wedding three weeks before it happened. We booked the registrar, ordered a cake, booked a meal at our local pub with a bottle of champagne, ordered two bunches of flowers for our Mums, got the parents in town on the right day, and then told them 20 minutes before the ceremony that they were going to a wedding ... easy peasy :-)
I can't wait to see Winifred's dress !!
Well congratulations to you two - that's so lovely. I am so pleased for you both. If you need me to make some bunting for the village hall - just give me a shout! Lots and lots of love from Di and Gaz xxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteWill you be wearing white?
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than a wedding !
ReplyDeleteHusband woke me with a cup of tea & the information that Dillon had done a huge poo in the porch this morning x
Not the whole of the UK - Scotland later this year. Fiance for groom. Please tell me you won't be wearing a meringue, as in 'My Big Fat Gay Wedding'!lol All the best to you and your man. xxx
ReplyDeleteMany, many congratulations to you both.
ReplyDeleteI must admit that the gay marriage thing had completely passed me by until I heard people shouting at each other about it on the Five Live phone-in this morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased that Chris is making an honest man of you - many congratulations!
Congratulations
ReplyDeleteCongratulations & look forward to reading about all the preparations & the big day!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Winnie the bridesmaid & George best man. I can just see him in a tux!
It is great fun making the plans if you don't over-stress the little things. Enjoy every moment!
ReplyDeleteI was reading about it on CNN last night, and I though they might mention you two. But no.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. xoxo
Congratulations! Don't forget to do the old 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue - and a silver sixpence in your shoe...xx
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteFiancé is the masculine, Fiancée is the feminine.
about time you two made it legal! will auntie glad's scones be served at the afterparty? and you just MUST share pix of the happy event!
ReplyDeleteYee haa who's buying the shoes to match the hats?
ReplyDeleteA heartfelt congratulations John! May you both have a lifetime of happiness :)
ReplyDeleteSooo very happy for you two! Have you picked out rings yet!? (if you're doing rings, that is)
ReplyDeleteOur 10th anniversary is coming up soon, on May Day. Hmmm, could that also be your choice of date? Though this year is does fall on a Thursday I think.
XOXOXO
Exciting times in Trelawnyd! Very excited and happy for you both....take lots of photos especially of Winifred. Can't wait to see that! I ran off as a teen to marry ....that was fifty years ago this November.
ReplyDeleteJust sending blessings to you both. Vx
ReplyDeleteCongratulation, how wonderful. Invite us all and you will need a larger venue! Hopefully the states or the Supreme Court finish legalizing marriage on this side of the pond, we live and work in two states that are stilling fighting over same-sex marriage.
ReplyDeleteThis is so great. How wonderful for you both. My congratulations to the happily engaged couple. May the sun shine bright on your wedding day.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and best wishes to you both
ReplyDeleteMazel Tov! Wishing you both many good days ahead. X
ReplyDeleteSo very happy for you both. Can't wait for the stories about the planning and the actual event. Perhaps I need to update my passport and plan a trip to your part of the world. ;) That would be so AWESOME!!!
ReplyDelete......sobbing....sniff sniff! Nia x
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Will watch this space with great interest! If Winnie is b/maid and George best man (in white tux), what will Albert's role be? Please don't leave him out... Enjoy the preparations but don't stress. x
ReplyDeleteVery many congratulations my lovely! Great news :) x
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for the marriage!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you both, can't wait for the photos! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and Congratulations!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me that someone is in charge of your outfit.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Best wishes to you both!
ReplyDeleteI can sew bunting too if you're going down that route - just give the word :-)
Will you be wearing your crocs or wellies? :D Congratulations to you both.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congratulations! I can't wait to see the photos and read all of the details! :)
ReplyDelete(My second bite at the cherry) Hope you two don't do anything too disgraceful on your respective stag-nights. Meaning: I hope you DO - and you tell us all about it.
ReplyDeleteSo, well done for the big day, old(?) chum - though try not to make a habit of it.
From a geezer in Montana, congratulations and best wishes to you both.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteI'll do some bunting too if you like? (Diane offered earlier.)
I hope the hall will be big enough.........
Keep those lists coming and I am so glad Winefrid is going to be there! - bit doubtful about the dress though!! -seriously though - congratulations - Jane
ReplyDeleteWill one of you sleep someplace else the night before the ceremony?
ReplyDeleteI also thought of your wearing crocs, but gillibob beat me to it. Will Scotch eggs be served at your wedding luncheon if it's a morning wedding?
I'm so happy for both of you and hope you can enjoy the process of making the arrangements and not stress too much about it.
xo
Scotch eggs WILL be served at the party at the village hall!
DeleteAll best wishes to you both!
ReplyDeleteWe all at Spinner's End Farm are so happy for you and Chris. The kids can't wait to see some pictures. :). Silly, eh?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you both :)
ReplyDeleteSarah xxx
I am smiling. This is so nice. And on and on and on and on....fades away, smiling.
ReplyDeleteHilarious, the poo comment that is. It is so familiar. Congratulations on the getting married. Look forward to the photos.
ReplyDeleteA turd in the living room? Wait till Chris needs wiping down - not to put too much of a downer on your forthcoming promises. In sickness and in stealth.
ReplyDeleteThe question one may ask and I try and avoid with the freshly engaged: What do you actually do with that piece of paper once the day has worn off? Still, lawyer too need to eat - and they do come in expensively when those stars in your eyes are to be entangled.
Ignore the above. Should you need a veil I recommend Liberty, London. The old woman who fitted mine no doubt dead my now. She was something else. One of the most stirring encounters of my life.
When is the date, John? Do you remember that film (possibly a Bunuel or Truffaut, am not sure): The Bride wore Black. Oh my god. That was something else.
U
It just feels the right thing to do....
DeleteSometimes it's just nice to celebrate something
And do it officially and publically
this is great news! i am so happy for both of you. now you have to keep up with tom and have a baby!
ReplyDeleteHow grand this is! So happy for you both!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and best whishes .
ReplyDeleteSo when are you going to release the details. Wishing you both all the happiness and blessings in the world! Wonderful awe-inspiring news. Still, John, I can't believe you only found out about gay marriage being legalized! BRILLIANT. Many hugs and xx's...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations indeed! On the marriage not the poo.
ReplyDeleteYes, fiance is the male one. (I don't know how to do an accented e I'm afraid.
I cried reading this...so happy for you both!!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHow truly wonderful. And I hope (so much) that our Government finally sees the light and comes to the party - and creates the perfect excuse for LOTS of happy parties.
ReplyDeleteTurds on the carpet? Poo and puke are all known as UDOs here (unidentified disgusting object) and it is my role to deal with them.
Blessings on you both! Live long and prosper!
ReplyDeleteWell done on naming the day! As to your statement that you couldn't contemplate it with anyone else - that is exactly how you should feel John. I feel exactly the same about the farmer. We don't need to know that date but we do want a photograph of the happy couple after the event.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Making the (fairly) safe assumption that the dress is out..
ReplyDeleteSo it'll have to be a suit. And not just the birthday one.
x
How lovely to start the weekend off with some good news. Congratulations to you both. Hope it all goes swimmingly and that any if there do happen to be any mishaps along the way, that they'll at least be the kind that will very soon become hilarious stories to reminisce over every easter. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! What brilliant news. Looking forward to the photos.
ReplyDeleteMazel Tov!! :)
ReplyDeleteturds and weddings in one day you do live life to the full can not wait to the run up to the great day when do we see the out fit, will go to the second hand shop and get my self a hat to watch the great event
ReplyDeletewhat wine is the best to drink to watch a wedding???
Thank you all for your comments and good wishes
ReplyDeleteIt means a great deal.......
I am so looking forward to celebrating the day with the people that count
........xxxx
As usual your post made me titter, then I got to the last line and I must admit I welled up a bit. Lovely news. All the best with the planning. X
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you both. Lovely to hear your plans.
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful! Not the turd mind you but the thought of Winifred in her bridesmaids dress has made my day! all the best
ReplyDeleteI love weddings, but they are few and far between in my family. Apart from my brother, but we are not going there. My feeling is that families need to celebrate the good times, and, lately, new babies have been the good times - so we hold 'meet the new baby events'
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS! I am so pleased for you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats and wishing you and Chris the very best. Looking forward to a full run down of the day! ...But, make sure you have that prenuptial agreement in place. Things happen...People change... and you have to have it in black in white just in case! Sorry, but that is just the way I roll! Can't help but give that little bit of advice. Still, I am so very happy for you. You can take my advice with a grain of salt simply because I think you two were just made for one another. Sending best wishes!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and best wishes to you both, wonderful news. BUT putting dear Winifred on a diet is a bit sad for a girl who loves her food...wouldn't it be kinder to just let out the seams of her bridesmaid's frock a tiny bit?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the great news!
ReplyDeleteIt will be the most anticipated blogging event of the season!! :-) I'm excited and happy for you John and Chris too!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy days -- congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI must say, it will be nice to see you all cleaned up for the event... (and no chicken shit on your drawers)
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful, John & Chris!!!! Congrats and many many more years of happiness ahead for you two!!!
ReplyDeleteNow please let us know where you two are registered at - im sure there are many of us who would love to bestow you with domestic bliss... or you could do a winery registry,,,oooOooo! Whose going to have a wedding shower for you?? We need to have one in bloggerland for you two!!!
XOXOX
Congratulations, could you imagine the traffic jam if all us followers decided to 'surprise' you and turn up unexpectedly??
ReplyDeleteHang on a minute.........
......there, just needed to 'tidy up' your numbers and now you have 100 posts!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLots of love and best wishes for the Big Day and can't wait for the details,
Love Susan xxx
For some illogical reason I feel the lack of animals and therefore their faeces in my life is anti-romantic. Thrilled that you can get married properlike, about bleeding time. As usual, NZ led the way (yes we are superior, it's all the sheep shit that does it).
ReplyDeleteI sincerely hope that scotch eggs will be in the wedding breakfast somewhere. WE had a roast served to the table like a family meal, and christmas puds with lemon sauce for afters, all made my me and delivered to the vineyard restaurant the day before. It was September which down under is late winter/early spring and nothing beats comfort food for a celebration! Huzzah!! xo
Wonderful news. May you have many more long and happy years together xxx
ReplyDeleteLovely news, you and Chris will be making history in Trelawnyd! Many congratulations x
ReplyDeleteI will be in touch with an invite to " the do" x
DeleteIt's a shame that it took the UK until 2014 to legalize gay marriage so the other half of the country can tie the knot.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy for you John.
Excellent! And half the battle is that moment of enlightenment. Simple. Easy. Natural. Congratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteDearest John and Chris,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you! I know a piece of paper makes no difference in the love you share for each other, but you have been denied the right to have that piece of paper for way to long. I wish you many years of "There's a bloody stool on the carpet" and happiness! You both deserve it. Bless you both.
Jill
Many congratulations to you both!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news - Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteps Better poo than vomit.
Congratulations :)
ReplyDeletecongratulations. so happy for you both x cheeky request I know, but
ReplyDeletea video would be nice so all of your virtual friends can enjoy your big
day with you.x
Happy for the happy couple! I definitely recommend marriage, although I have tried it twice and not been very successful in either case: the first ended in a divorce, the second with my husband's death. Not sure yet whether there will be a "Third Time Lucky", but I am not ruling it out.
ReplyDeleteUntil now, I always thought the word fiancée applies to the female part of an engaged couple, and you could say fiancé (with just one e) for the male part, as these are the regular endings for female and male nouns in French.
Congrats. Cant wait for the pictures. I was imagining the Ukrainian village with millions of fairy lights all over. Scotch eggs with black pudding and some of Aunty Glads scones. yum
ReplyDeleteI'm just catching up with you after a weekend away, and wanted to add my congratulations to the pack. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. And how nice of you to give the village something to gossip about--the first same-sex marriage in town! There should be a plaque put up somewhere for posterity's sake.
ReplyDeleteI am also just catching up with you but I don't have Alison's excuse of having been away! I am so happy for you and Chris! Eagerly awaiting details, and then will have to wait for pictures!! Will you post them on your blog or do one of the wonderful internet sites for photos? And don't forget dancing videos! I need everything I can get since I can't be there!!
ReplyDeleteLove to you both,
Nancy in Savannah (formerly in Iowa)
Forgot to add - wish you would come to Savannah for the wedding as so many people do - wedding in one of the gorgeous squares or other venues. My daughter is a wedding photographer and stays really busy!
ReplyDelete
