I, like a few people that I know, will often throw a " grenade" of a comment into a conversation in order to witness the fallout it creates. A few bloggers that I " know" will employ the same tactic, in order to provoke a response.....sometimes the effect can be useful......as grenades can stimulate thought and debate.........other times the effect can rebound, especially when the comment is construed as being upsetting or offensive.
Actress Miriam Margolyes, is a master at grenade lobbing
She adores shocking her audience into mirth and has perfected the wide eyed, innocent but not so innocent, wham bam one liner......
She is a treasure
I have posted several of her interviews on Going Gently, they lift the mood on a grey winter's day
Enjoy this one........

And she has chosen to live in Australia. Grenade lobbing must be used carefully.
ReplyDeleteOh John ….. I LOVE her. My favourite story of hers was on Graham Norton with Will.i.am when she told the tale of the soldier up a tree in Edinburgh. I've watched it so many times and I laugh out loud everytime I watch it. XXXX
ReplyDeleteMiriam reminds me very much of someone I know and don't dare name. They both have a way of talking improperly in a very proper way!
ReplyDeleteAfter watching this clip, I find myself wanting to learn more about Ms. Margolyes!
ReplyDeleteLove her...deadpan hilarious ! I will have to check out more clips of her.
ReplyDeleteA National Treasure!
ReplyDeleteWonderful character!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that, had a chuckle! x
Ms Margolyes came to see me sing last year and sent me a rather lovely email!
ReplyDeleteApparently when filming a tv series with kids the kids very quickly put together a swear box. I think she was the sole contributor and the kids made a fortune.
ReplyDeleteFrotting. What a fab word that hasn't made the blogger dictionary yet, apparently.
She is a darling woman.
ReplyDeleteJohn, saw this and thought of you !
ReplyDeleteShe's a delight.
ReplyDeleteOh these 'grenades' can be so useful when one is suffocating and needs some fresh air!
ReplyDeleteI have used these in the past much to my delight.....have no clue what the 'audience' thought, other than the room became very quiet.
Great start to my day-thanks, John!
ReplyDeleteBarb
hahahahaaa "..I'm warming to my theme!.." love it!
ReplyDeleteShe's been in a ton of movies/TV shows that I have seen - love her!
DeleteI've watched this so many times and still I laughed out loud again today!
ReplyDeleteThanks, John! That was well appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteJohn, grenades must be dispersed. Although Tom aka Hippo could take more care in responses to his commentators. He often sounds like the fag after the main event. Flat.
ReplyDeleteAs you know I love you in a sort of covert way and yes, I should have asked your permission, but I didn't - such is the way of the world, I have plastered you on my blog. Condolences to Winifred. People will sniff her out.
How is Jason?
U
Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteoh John you are awful, but I like you! lol
ReplyDeleteGraham Norton's expression says it all - she's a star
ReplyDeleteThis incredible l woman started her career as a voice artist for porn movies..Cadbury caramel rabbit? that was our Miriam!!!!

DeleteAlison. Thank you.........x
DeleteI feel in love with her when I saw her in the film, "The Age of Innocence". Oh good God, I now need to watch episodes of her on Graham, who I adore as well. She is friggin' hilarious. LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is, the things they get away with saying and doing on that show would never fly here in the States unless it was on cable. So sad.
*fell not feel, though that could become part of her story....
DeleteIf someone frotted against me on a bus he'd probably be dirty and stinky.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Love her. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteSo fabulous. It is her delivery also.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
Absolutely brilliant in all ways!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just remembered the last thing I saw her in - Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. She plays Phrynne's aunt. A great series!
ReplyDeleteshe will forever have a place in my heart when she admitted on a radio interview that she had hit her demented mother. This was at the time I was struggling singlehandedly to be my own mother's carer. I never hit her but boy. . .
