Too Far Gone (Beware Spoilers)

Too far gone ( the mid season finale I watched on YouTube today)
Old Hershel Green

Well, it had to happen. The Walking Dead has finally  killed off one of its most beloved characters . From the slightly pious and irritating religious farmer we met two dozen episodes back actor Scott Wilson has transformed Hershel Green from a stock supporting character in series 2 into a moving beacon of humanity and warmth amid a savage and sad new world in series 4.
For a programme with a fan base in its teens and twenties, it's refreshing to see that a man in his seventies has become a bit of a super hero
Fans of The Walking Dead have delighted in Scott's quiet authority in his role.....and it is a valuable lesson to learn that amid all of the CGI and gore......it is the performances and characterisations that are really  central.to the drama..
Hershel will be missed

  6. Watched it last night, what a roller coaster. Hershel, the Governor, the prison, the baby, the end....phew.

You absolutely MUST watch The Talking Dead. It's a talk show featuring only the show and the link is here to past episodes.

If you love the actor who played Hershel, watch his exit interview. It's fascinating and poignant. Even the actress who plays Maggie was almost in tears just talking about it. Plus there are some teasers about next part of the season.

Now we wait until February. Sigh.

    1. Oops, I was just informed by my partner that you probably can't watch this because you have to log in with your cable provider. But I'm guessing there are episodes on youtube. If you can find them you'd enjoy it.

      RIP Hershel

I was really hoping that Mishon would have killed and made the Governor like the two walkers she had when she was first introduced.

And it would have been so awesome to see Judith as a crawling walker. I know she's not dead (just a guess) but how cool and horrific would that have been???!!!!

  8. I completely agree, Hershel had become one of my favorite characters. The only thing I find remotely positive for us viewers is that since the prison has fallen maybe we will get a wider view of The Walking Dead world. I'd like to know if any type of government or real piece of civilization is still alive.

  9. I already saw a spoiler for this on Facebook (sigh) and it makes me sad. I loved Herschel. :( I am happy to hear Daryl is still ok.

  10. Hershel's agonizing death at the hands of the Governor horrifying & shocking. What kind of person tries to behead someone with a dull sword. Didn't the Governor learn anything from Michione about keeping your sword really sharp? I suspect the Governor purposely used a dull weapon to make Hershel's suffering as great as possible. I could smack Darryl for stopping Carl from shooting the Governor & saving Hershel. Now the scattered survivors of the group are without a moral compass much as they were when Dale was eaten by the Walker in the cow field.
The only thing that was more painful than Hershel's death was having to listen to Rick's inability to maintain any semblance of a Southern accent throughout the episode. Sadly, the British actor, who usually is able to produce a convincing drawl, could not muster a credible Southern accent to save his life. I guess having to speak in a desperate, semi-blubbering tone is not compatible with producing the dialect of a Southern gentlemen. Hopefully it was a temporary lapse & Andrew can find his drawl again.
Now we are left in limbo to ponder the unknown and grieve for Hershel until February 9th when new episodes being airing. Now that the survivors are scattered to the wind without their calming moral compass, will the survivors find one another or is everyone permanently seperated? Will Darryl try to find Carol & how many more times can Carl save Rick's ass? Who was putting the rats through the door and what is making Bob act so weird?
So many unanswered questions & nothing worth watching on TV for 2 months.
Since TWD will not resume until February 9th (sniff, sniff), we can properly grieve the dead (with the exception of the Governor) and wonder what is to become of the survivors & what does the future hold as the Walkers continue to decay & turn into snaping jaws & teeth in puddles of decomposing goo. Perhaps the infection the survivors carry will begin to mutate? Just a thought.
RIP Hershel your calm & reassuring leadership will be sorely missed as will the enormous acting talent of Scott Wilson. I agree it is not often that a senior citizen is given superhero status by those under 30 years of age.

    1. We'll said Ellen
At least Maggie ( who speaks in a lovely British accent) can master her southern accent
Some of the newer characters are proving to be rather bland ( tyreese, bob, Tara) whist carol ( one of the more interesting characters) has been banished...
Oh to be a real geek

  15. I totally saw this coming, but that didn't make it any less shocking. So sad to see Maggie and Beth's reactions to it as well. Utterly heartbreaking!

  16. I was actually shouting "NO!" at the screen and "Kill the f***er". A long time since a programe has roused me that much. I loved the episode and hated it. All be unfamiliar when it comes back in February and it's all too long to have to wait!
