The Joys of Motherhood

Before daybreak, I have been doing what all weary " parents" have done since the dawn of time, and that is amble around the house after a sick " child" with a bucket of disinfectant and a sponge in hand.
A wandering dog with diarrhoea can be a somewhat trying experience , especially when he has positioned his botty exactly over a large crack in the ancient varnished floorboards in the bedroom before " letting rip".
I don't know about you, but trying to wheedle a line of shit out of a 4 millimetre crack with a sliver of tissue in  the middle of the night is not a bag of laughs, I can tell you

Having said this
At least Scottish Terriers don't bawl when they are poorly

  3. Oh and here's a funny sh*t story John... years ago a friend took over a cat I just couldn't look after at the time, Harry.

Friend's son had some sort of large Lizard thing - can't remember what anyway it chased poor Harry down the stairs & he sh*t himself all the way down the cream carpet. He was literally scared sh*tless !

  5. Up the Scots! And I feel sorry for the bulldoggie. I can empathize with you, John, although I'm merely trying to keep peace between five feisty and warring male cats - 24/7!

  6. Been there, done that, John AND, being someone who walks around in bare feet most of the time I have trodden on some pretty vile things including, bodily fluids, various bird and rodent innards and once I stepped back from the fridge and trod on parts of a pigeon ….. lovely !! XXXX

  9. Oh dear, I feel your pain on the "crack"" thing. My dogs love to vomit and have explosive diarrhea on our old wood floorboards with lots of cracks! I like to use a bit of thin cardboard folds in half like a little trowel.

  10. The cats manage to puke down the floorboard cracks...it's quite the skill.

  11. This is the beauty of living in a benign climate. I don't feel guilty booting a similarly afflicted dog out onto the stoep, feeding them and letting them sleep there until they've got a grip of themselves again.

For you though, that would mean kicking a sick dog out into a cold hard night. I feel sorry for you!

I dare say it's potty week.

  14. Get old toothbrush and dip in the disinfectant and then wipe up with paper towel? Seems we have a sickly animal at least once a week. Hate to see the animals sickly as it is so worrisome.

  20. My Dachshund and cat have had diarrhoea, too. I wonder if there's something going round. Dachshund shat all over the bloody kitchen the other night — fun!

  21. Not a bag of laughs, for sure. I suppose it would have been worse if you'd had to take up the floorboards to clean up the mess.

  22. Crap/puke/piddle removal seems to be a large part of my job description so I feel for both you and the afflicted. And I too have trodden in UDOs (Unidentified Disgusting Objects) far too many times.

  23. Your post makes me realize I've been lucky so far, with cats that always make it to the litter box with that kind of problem ... I've cleaned up my fair share of hairballs and vomit, though. Now I've something else to worry about, though :)

I hope your furry fella feels better QUICKLY.

  25. Hope you both feel better soon! Isn't just extra special when it's in the middle of the night? So far, like Jenny, I've been fortunate with our four cats. They do make it to the litter box, even with diarrhea. But vomit is something they do quite often and usually on a hard-to-clean carpet and almost never our easy-clean tile floor!

  28. Sounds like a nice night. We don;t have the dogs doing it just kids but thats one fo the reasons we don;t have carpet downstairs now. It was harder to find a place on it without a stain than with. Still our's is more sick than the brown stuff. Maybe I could sell you some nappies?

I've spent more than one lot of late hours or early mornings on my hands and knees and not in a pleasurable way. But if you let it dry, it will be worse in the morning and don't forget to give the offender the guilt glare. They don't notice but it makes you feel better.

  34. Lay a clean rag over the affected floor boards. Then take your metal spatula and push it into the crack making sure that the rag gets stuffed into the crack as you go. Then pull out the rag. Repeat using a different area of the rag until rag comes out clean. A tried and trusted method.
