My good friend Tom at
Lives a rural Angolan life of adventure and excitement
Today I suspect he has been bitten by a snake
And still he's dealing with the problem, with a slug of whisky
, a band aid and with an old fashioned
" spirit that won the war"
John Wayne is alive and very much kicking ( albeit with only one foot)
In Africa
And today I got all excited over a wool hat x
I like the things you get excited about John...wool hats and disabled bunnies and big calf eyed female bulldogs...fuzzy terriers and home made scones....I can't identify with snake bites and Africa.
ReplyDeleteD day for Winifred tomorrow
ReplyDeleteDecision has to be made regarding if she stays or goes.....
Anyhow have a look a tom's blog
It's a great read
She's staying, right? I suspect you'll have a lot of pissy followers if Winnie goes.
DeleteI will tell all tomorrow
DeleteLooked at the blog...looked at the toe..Gorg!!!!!
DeleteHope your friend heals.
ReplyDeleteHeading over there now.
ReplyDeletehe does need to get that seen too ASAP.

At first I thought that he was just trying to steal your thunder. I mean, seriously, that hat is a beauty. It somehow makes me think of the character Baldrick on Blackadder.
ReplyDeleteAfter having visited Tom's blog now, though, I have to tell you that he is going to win some sort of award for bravery. His toe is about to fall off and all he does is to say "Bugger"?!?!?! I would have hysterically run around in circles (which would have been pretty difficult to do with a bum toe and all.....).
With the risk of sounding like a favourite uncle. Tom is an absolute delight.
DeleteThey don't breed anyone like him any more
Keep on reading his life makes my hair curl x
We all lead different lives. Everything is relative. A tragedy for me is nothing to someone else.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Do we get to vote? If so, I vote that Winifred stays, she is a charming one. I will visit your friend's blog and hope to hear good news on the toe front and the snake bite incident.
ReplyDeleteOMG!
ReplyDeleteBugger! Chigger?
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a little queasy....
Visited Tom's blog and shuddered. Such stoicsm.
ReplyDeleteLove your hat - and will be very, very suprised if Winifred leaves. Very surprised.
John, I would take your hat over that bugger of a toe any day! Wow....
ReplyDeletePS: Thanks for stopping by my blog today--I'm in denial about how many dogs we have, suffice it to say, I'm now over my limit....
I know x
DeleteI always read tom with a wince on my face anyhow - he's gotta be one of the toughest SOB's ever walking this planet. Brave or crazy - havent figured out which yet!
ReplyDeleteThat toe is haunting me. I'll check his blog to see if he's still alive tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteJohn, Your friend Tom is a stubborn man. He could lose his entire foot if he continues swelling. Hopefully the outcome is better than the bite.
ReplyDeleteLook John, I don't know how to put this kindly, however lovely the hat is and it is... it makes you look a complete tit. Wear it and you're nearly as mad and bad a hero as Tom.
ReplyDeleteLLX
OUCH
DeleteOh I didn't think Winifred was on a trial period. She seemed to have settled in beautifully. Fingers crossed she stays... you are leaving us with a cliff hanger today John !
ReplyDeleteWill pop over to Tom's now x
PS while blackberrying with Jess on Sunday she complained about the spiders; exclaiming, " I was bitten by a spider in the States ! "
ReplyDeleteI simply answered, " Your not in America now... pick "
Bitten by a snake? Bad luck, Hippo!
ReplyDeleteNot sure it was a snake, Tom, but laying the concrete pathways is suddenly a priority!
DeleteI bet you John: This mishap is just a very clever publicity stunt to make sure you'd send Tom some more readers. Remember when he complained the other day that you seem to attract them like flies whereas he feels a little short changed? It's amazing to what lengths some people will go to increase their popularity and standing in the world. Naturally - should the worst come to the worst we will be treated to future stories of his "Life on a Limp".
ReplyDeleteAnyway, left him a finely crafted comment - a measured mix of sympathy and contempt. Not in that order.
You are such a good friend, John: How did we all find you? What have we done to deserve you?
U
I wondered how you mobilized an Army John! Now that I am catching up on all my favourite bloggers I see this. Thanks John. No, I still have not reported sick.
ReplyDeleteJohn...I started reading Hippo a year or so ago on your recommendation. Never ceases to amaze and amuse. He is indeed mad as a hat, and really should get the toe fixed before the whole foot comes adrift....
ReplyDeleteApparently he is now healing well
DeleteLol
If it was a snake bite..... He's probably bitten its head off by now too
I like Hippo. Send him my best wishes and hope he recovers soon
