Calling All Exhibitors

The deadline for taking entries for the Trelawnyd Flower Show is only a week away. The big set up of the village Hall takes place next Friday when the Children's art from the school is displayed , and the tea tables are set up each with a vase of garden flowers set out on hand embroidered tablecloths. The trophies from last year are polished and set out, Auntie Glad's bric-a-brac stall is assembled and great rolls of paper are celotaped to trestle tables in readiness for the entries to come in early on Saturday morning.
We have been debating whether or not to cancel this years show as to many in Treawnyd Sylvia Evans WAS the Flower Show.....it's heart and it's soul.. Some have felt it distrespectful to carry on, especially if Sylvia's funeral was scheduled for the end of the week Others have voiced a " The Show must go on" kind of mentality, which I must say is hard as every tiny part of the show set up was choreographed within an inch of its life by Sylvia and long term treasurer Irene, who by a quirk of fate will not be available to participate in this years show.
I must admit, if it was solely up to me.
I would cancel the whole event.
But it's NOT up to me,
and so after a long discussion with Sylvia's family, other members of the cast so to speak and to Auntie Glad ( who feels that only a war could disrupt the show) it has been decided that we will go ahead as planned.
AND SO I AM BLOGGING TODAY TO ENCOURAGE THOSE THAT ARE THINKING OF ENTERING THEIR PRODUCE FLOWERS, VEG, CRAFTS AND FUNNY NOVELTY VEG IN THE SHAPE OF AN ANIMAL BUT ARE IN TWO MINDS ABOUT IT....PLEASE DO

Due to the erratic wether we have recently experienced, as well as the fact that the local Eisteddfod will be taking place over next weekend show entries are predicted to be down this year. .
So as Tesco always says " every little helps"
So please Support the show, as a mark of respect for the former flower show champion That was
Sylvia Evans....and get your entries ready.

  1. A difficult dilemma, but personally I would be on the side of 'The show must go on'. I'm sure that's what she would have wanted.

  2. John Wayne of Trelawnyd rides to the rescue.

Sylvia would want you all to do it, I'm sure. It's disrespectful if you don't I think.

  4. think of this show as an homage to sylvia; observe a moment of silence when it opens, and think how delighted she would be to see everyone having a good time.

and I second dear raybeard's request!

  8. Since Sylvia was the heart and soul of the show, then it must go on to honor he memory of the dear lady. I hope it will be a big success for you all.

  10. It's a lot to manage but unless 'one is bleeding from the head or the house is on fire', one must go on. Sylvia had such great fun being involved in the event, me thinks she would want it to take place.

And, yes, lots and lots of pics, please! Good luck with it all!

  11. I'm with Auntie Gladys, Lady of Scones, and all who see this as a memorial to Sylvia. She would be so disappointed if it didn't happen this year, and so happy to know you all could pull it off without her. And if it's not quite as well-choreographed or glamorous, well, that's just the proof of how much she's missed.

  12. You can't cancel a flower show man, good grief, this is Great Britain! If I lived nearer I would turn up with my own bunch of glads or some phallic fruit in support.

  13. I agree - on with the show! Rain or shine, ice or hail, it must be done.

Side note - I see from this donkey post that Hannah and Chico have already been through Rhyl. http://seasidedonkey.co.uk/the-life-and-times-of-chico/

  14. Go and do it you all. Sylvia is cheering you on. You know about the grannies in heaven jumping up and down for joy. Now Sylvia is one, and so happy you are honoring her.

  15. As a complete outside John I will say this - I am absolutely one hundred percent certain that the dear lady would be horrified at the thought of you cancelling it. She will be with you in spirit this year and for many years to come - so remember her with joy.

  18. Why not call it the 'Sylvia Memorial Show' - for at least one year.. she'd love it. It's only when you forget people like Sylvia that they truly die. That's what the Romans thought - commemorate me and I live. That is enough Culture for you for tonight!

  19. I'm not promising but I will try my hardest to get a card to you this week at some point for the craft table. If I don't - then the intention was there and I wish you all lots of luck for a successful show. A fitting memorial for Sylvia x

  20. I think Sylvia would want the show to go on and I agree that a fitting memorial would be a cup in her name. Why not start a subscription for the cup at this year's show - we'll happily contribute and so will many others, I'm sure. She will be sadly missed but a cup will ensure she lives on at the show.

  21. A cup in her name seems like a brilliant idea. Then Sylvia will be at every show in the future.
