Crestwood Eggs Taste Test

For baby sitting their fish and uncommunicative gecko, affable despot Jason and wife Claire gave me,amongst other things, four Crestwood Scotch eggs as a bit of a thank you!
A thoughtful and much appreciated gift, I thought.
Now I have not taste tested this variety before,
And so I set aside a few precious minutes this evening, to give the little beauties my full attention
Here is my assessment

Egg quality 8/10
Grey egg ring - absent 10/10
Thickness of sausage meat cover  average 0.5 centimetres 6/10
Breadcrumb cover - slightly soft in places 5/10
Biteability - fair 6/10

Overall... A fair scotch egg with an averagely tasty crumb cover. Not in the class of Waitrose best or Marks& Spencer quality ranges...... But, nevertheless a nice scotch egg, which could be enjoyed at a pub lunch or a lower Middleclass family get together

  2. Presentation: 9/10, creative but those eggs have a bad attitude. (I would too, if you relegated me to lower middleclass, hmph.)

  3. Happy with the overall rating ! .......a connoisseur such as yourself would always be craving that extra point so overall pretty happy with your assessment of the boiled egg in a testicular shaped casing .

    1. If you look closely your eggs dont quite keep their shape when held in the hand

  4. One of these days I will attempt to make scotch eggs from a recipe I found online, as they seem to be unheard-of here in SC. I'm dying to taste one after reading your many blog posts about them! I wonder if homemade would measure up to store bought?

  5. I've never had a Scotch egg in my life. Wonder if I could find some over here!

  6. He he, a remarkably thorough taste test. Wasted on me though as I'm a long-standing vegetarian. And even when I was a carnivore, I don't remember ever trying Scotch eggs. Was I missing out on a unique delicacy?

    1. Scotch eggs can be a little bite of paradise

    2. I'm with Nick in being a virgin to Scotch eggs - and for the same reason.
My ambrosial foretaste of Paradise comes in the shape of the humble egg and chips (with baked beans on the side).

    3. I'm a bit partial to the Quorn mini scotch eggs....try not to buy them too often though as there are about 12/16 in the pack and I feel obliged to scoff the lot once the pack is opened....on an unrelated note...sometimes I wonder why I'm chubby?

    4. Unfortunately quorn doesn't agree with me. I've tried it twice and my stomach felt most peculiar for hours.

  8. This measured 10/10 on my chuckle meter :) The absence of the grey egg ring would have won me over completely! Elizabeth xx

  10. Oh for God's sake. A Scotch Egg. Could it be any simpler?

    1. Yes, Tom, it could be simpler: Fry the sausage, boil the egg. Cool. Don't forget to shell the egg.Take alternate bites.

  18. I am heartbroken, John. Here I am plotting how to erase my one and only obstacle to your heart (Chris) now you quietly slip in that the delicious Jason has a wife.

Well, that's it. I know when I am beaten by a Scotch egg. Or two.

Other than that you sound like AA Gill on a Sunday.

  19. That face is priceless. The rating: absolutely no use. They look less and less appetizing the more I see them.

  20. How many points is a scotch egg on your diet John? Only asking!

    LLX

P.S. If you reply? I know it'll be one word, the first one C, the one in the middle, a bit like an egg in the aforementioned, and the last one W.

  21. I'm salivating at the prospect of eating these again soon, when I return to GOC next week. Not quite sure what the Scotch have to do with these eggs, however. But who cares!

  22. I'm trying to decide if your nose is really that big, or if that's your mouth (full of scotch eggs) with a dimple below to the side. Everytime you mention scotch eggs I moan a little, because I'm dying to try one. When I was in the UK (lo, these 40 years ago!) I pretty much lived on pub food (and drink), especially steak & kidney pie. Never was offered a scotch egg.
