Waiting For The Rain ( and for the Royal baby)

The thunderstorms that we have been promised, have not arrived as yet, and the garden flowers are hanging on in there without a proper drink so to speak. Tonight I have cut more blooms  from the rose bushes and borders and have filled the cottage with colour. It's been a white heat sort of hazy day, and too hot to stick,to one job outside for too long.
We need the rain
The dogs are on predator watch as we speak. I caught a young fox peeping into the field from the pond around 3 pm. The Indian runners legged it to the safety of the field gate  and when I brought the terriers back to guard the poultry, the birds crowded around them like groupies.
It's funny they know that the dogs mean safety
Especially as I always think that the welsh terriers have typical fox colouring
.
Auntie Gladys popped down earlier ( a bag of scones were tied to the front door) she has spent the last couple of afternoons sunbathing in her own front door, and was asleep when I passed.
The village looks dry and parched
The thunderstorms, when they come , are going to be most welcome
Chris is working away all week.
I vaguely wonder if the woman with the cheap shoes had a crap day
I hope she did
Ha

  1. We also are waiting anxiously for thunderstorms to water our thirsty flowers and parched grass. I hear thunder in the distance but that does not mean it will come here. Perhaps, it is just an echo from Wales.

  2. Hope you get your rain soon, John. We get rain some afternoons, but usually just enough to make it more humid.
I bet your cottage smells wonderful with all the roses inside. :-)

  3. The girl from the petrol station has been caught. We have her secure in a B&B on the seafront in Rhyl. She has already written out this line a hundred times, "I must not call John Gray a twat". Now we await your further instructions.

  7. thunderstorms here earlier. like something from a horror film. forking over head and then the rumble and the crack and boom. Heck it was a good one. Rained like mental. How I would imagine the hammer of Thor.

The new Royal baby can be told on the day you came into the world the heavens boomed and rolled and flashes of light. What an entrance! and now for the media circus.

  11. I hope she stepped in a steaming pile of dog poo. It's not like she'd have to worry about ruining her good shoes.
The flowers are a lovely touch!

  13. obviously the "lady" at the petrol station does not know her males from her females. I could see her calling me a twat, but you...

you MUST show us around your cottage sometime; it looks like it belongs in a magazine with all the pretties!

  14. Last Friday I called the police on a man who had left his dog in the car (windows up) in the searing heat. To make a long story short, when he came back 4 minutes after I'd called the police, he had no shortage of words or names to call me--I'd not expected to be bullied like that and spent the next two days thinking of the perfect response to his barrage of insults. I hope he had a crap weekend and the girl with the cheap shoes did too.....

  16. I was awoken at 0530 this morning with a panting dog telling us about the thunder. Thundershirt on and the result was 65lbs of Collie on my legs. At least he wasn't panting.

    Cheap Shoes? the nerve.

  19. I love the line about the hens and the protecting dogs. So perfect.
I hope you get rain soon. We are in our monsoon season so all week it will rain somewhere in the valley and we will be only 95 to 100. Happy Happy Happy !

I love all the flowers in your house and I am going to see if I can plant some sweetpeas in the just finished critter proofed side yard. Didn't know how much I miss them till I saw your blooms.

    cheers, parsnip

  21. Your flowers are lovely. I think it's the arranging as much as the flowers. Wish I had the knack.

Glad your dogs are protecting the hens.
