Erk ... it's so hard, isn't it ... the spirit is willing but the accomodations are busting at the seams and the wallet is empty ... been there ... good luck with the decision
Is this the result of another bloody breeder who expects *real* dog lovers to take responsibility for their bitches once they've outlived their usefulness and start costing them money?
Lots of 'Millies' who doubtless need a new home but you can't save them all. Also means less time and money spent on your already happy little bunch of lovely pooches. Sometimes it's great to throw caution to the wind and just go for it when the occasion calls for it but sometimes it's good to just be sensible.
Does Chris have a say? I suspect I already know the answer to that one. I'm guessing that you'll cave in and why not - she looks great and Mildred is such a good name! It's a name you can generate strange looks with when yelling after your dog in a public place.
My dear John, big sigh, I too want to save the world and its leftovers.
As an aside, and please don't be cross: But that breed sure is ugly. Please note: I didn't say unlovable. Neither should looks influence your decision. As if they ever do (and this is NOT a dig at Chris).
When I get round to it I'll tell you a little anecdote which may influence your decision. Though by then - I dare say - it'll be too late. Though maybe helpful for next time someone knocks at your door.
Actually, John, before I forget, and forgive me for laughing at the very thought of it: I do have three beanie toy bull dogs (they were my sons) looking for a new home. One is called "Wrinkles" (apt). They are tiny, they don't smell, they don't need to be fed, they don't poo, they don't incur vet bills, they don't lick your face or try to get into your bed. All they do is look cute - there on the mantelpiece. Hold on a second: Cute? Didn't I just say bulldogs are ugly?
And, here is my USP (unique selling point): Since it's you, John, I'll let you have them for free.
Dear dog in heaven, Editor's note: I may be a bitch but those beanies were NOT my sons. They were my son's. I swear people should be petitioned to keep the apostrophe alive. Otherwise a bulldog may be lumbered with a paternity case.
what about any one on here that would have the room or a lovely home. I would love a pet but we both work 12 hour days. there would be no one here. it would be unfair on them. and I think the RSPCA would be here because they are on their own...
After 4 fosters, I kept the last one and adopted him at the age of 12. As much as I love him, he does tie me down and has cost me a lot of money. I look at the Lab Rescue listings every week though....I can;t help myself.
I sure hope you weren't looking to your readers for advice, because judging from the comments, we're no help at all. I'd think the tilting point would be her age, personally. Good luck with that decision.
Do you want your heart broken again? That's a question only you can really and truly answer. If you feel you can handle it, then the answer is yes. If not, the answer is no.
I hope you get a resounding answer as to how you ought to proceed.
sweet doggie dreams John x

ReplyDeleteOnly if your heart can handle it, John...
ReplyDeleteNo, no, John. If you want another dog, look for a different breed. Your heart has been broken enough.
ReplyDeleteTemptation. Will the heart or the head win? It's a difficult call, I don't envy you.x
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
ReplyDeleteI hate to be clinical but how old is she and does she have a clean bill of health from a vet? Bloodwork, heart, joints and limbs are all ok?
ReplyDeleteI think she looks like a sweetheart but I hate to see you (and her) suffer another loss.
Poor you.....such a tough call.
