Right on time the Judge of the open day's " Best Name For The Turkey" competition arrived to pose for his publicity shots. Larger-than-life local wag Peter and his better half Val had a slightly exasperating time of it during the photos shoot as the turkey ( the artist formally known as Bingley) proved himself to be somewhat of a Mariah Carey diva and stropped around in front of the camera like a big girls' blouse.
Mrs Trellis will be running the competition on the day

Bingley is looking good!
ReplyDeleteGood Sunday, John.

DeleteMay I start the ball rolling with my suggestion of 'Ankara'.

Deleteturkey schmurkey...i want to know if you got the new dog?
ReplyDeleteBingley getting a "new" name? and you're getting a "new" dog?...I'd better start keeping up so I wouldn't have to keep playing catch up :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome fellow! (Both of them)
ReplyDeletePeter will be made up with that comment
DeleteDamn! I didn't realize the turkey formerly known as Bingley was so huge! How about "Gigantus" for a name?

American, eh? How about Thanksgiving? ha!
ReplyDelete"stropped around in front of the camera like a big girls' blouse."
ReplyDeleteAre you writing a book yet? Cause you should. Srsly.
Big girls' blouse
DeleteA common Northern England saying from years back
Peter's shirts are so bright and colorful. My husband wears varying shades of taupe.
ReplyDeleteSusie.....look at his shows
DeleteLetter box red!
I keep mentioning that you should write a small book and sell it at the open. The chapter on the Scotched Eggs alone make it a best seller.
ReplyDeleteLove the lead up to the open, I so wish I could come.... maybe next year.
The artist formerly know as Bingley was just having a star moment. The sun(who knew it shown that bright in Wales) was in his eyes. He was bewildered !
cheers, parsnip
Thanks parsnip..... If you come next year,, I will get you to organise the raffle
DeleteThere are several species of turkeys here in the US. The turkeys here in the north don't have any white feathers.
ReplyDeleteOur turkeys are molting too and I'm finding lots of feathers around.
American? Then is name has got to be Jose Canyousee.
ReplyDeleteLove it! Perfect.
DeleteBingley was just trying to make sure you got his good side! :)
ReplyDeleteCat
My son named our first goats "Dinner" and "Supper"... does that give you an idea why we had got them?
ReplyDeleteEldridge...king of the turkeys. By the way, if you google king of the turkeys you'll get quite a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteDaft question - what's wrong with 'Bingley' for his name, please? It suits him and I won't know who you're on about if you change his name. Poor Bingley will be soooo confused.
ReplyDeleteRambler
DeleteBetween you and I , his name won't change
It's just a ploy to raise money on the open day .....the winner of the best name will win the competition and a hamper of food all for the price of a pound ticket!
Two years ago we raised 180 pounds naming one of the pigs!
Has Peter been in Turkey recently?
ReplyDeleteGood way to raise a bit of money. I'm glad you won't be confusing poor ol' Bingley by calling him by a new name. (like, um, Dinner?)
ReplyDeleteHehe. Bingley is no doubt certain he's the better looking. Of course he would 'hog' the photo. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, John. Hope you raise a bunch of money!
ReplyDeleteeveryone knows that turkeys can be cuddly when they want to be, Peter - you should have manned up, took a chance and hugged Bingley for the perfect photo op...
but then of course not everyone needs two eyes either...
American turkey? I say name him "Pilgrim"!
ReplyDeleteReminded me of the West Wing episode with CJ and the turkeys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xay-vwOeHcE
ReplyDeleteJust don't let Sarah Palin anywhere near him.
