  8. I love those that make me laugh... but even more, I love those that have the nature to laugh at what's around them and even more, those that can laugh at themselves. Too many folks I know just don't know how to find humor in life and in themselves.... John, you always manage to find the humor in it all.

  9. Excellent! And then there's you. A poor man's Tommy Cooper! Or as you would say, "tee hee!"

  10. You make me laugh, but not in a weird way. Your writing is very humorous. I love Audrey Tatou. If I switched teams, I would totally want to have an affair with her.

    Love,
    Janie

  12. One of the things that makes my sides split every time I see it, is Gryff Rhys-Jones and Mel Smith's 'Home Made Xmas Video'. With Mel's recent sad departure I'll offer him to your list.

  13. John, I have some tasteful Kiwi tat for your Open Day. Can you email me your postal address please? With any luck it will get to you in time. If not you can save it for next time! My email address is on my Blogger profile.

Who makes me laff? Why you do, dear John!

  14. I always liked Tommy Cooper's short jokes.

'I just got a new car for my wife!'

    'Really? That's a good deal...'

  15. Laurel & Hardy
    +
Steve Coogan - but mainly as Alan Partridge.
Ricky Gervais - in 'The Office' and 'Extras'
Jack Dee (esp. in 'Lead Balloon')
    Steve Martin

A lot of the Woody Allens - his early slapstick films AND a number of the later comedies

and, yes, the incomparable Mae West, of course.

The funniest comic of my generation for me was undoubtedly Ken Dodd, who even at his present advanced age still retains some of his former crazy magic.

  16. Love your list. The only one I don't 'get' is Miranda Hart. Does Chris make you laugh?

  17. Ruby wax & Graham Norton make me giggle - a lot.

Miles Jupp was booked for a comedy show in our village. He didn't turn up ( he'd got too famous & was on the BEEB that night ) the replacement was very good but we were a bit cheesed off as had paid to see Miles Jupp.

  18. May your days be full of laughter then John.
I never thought of Tom in terms of acid wit but it fits him like a glove - I shall read him in a different light in future. It would bne really interesting to meet him face to face, particularly if he didn't know who I was.

  22. Regarding Audrey Tatou, the only thing I didn't like about Amelie is that Audrey Tatou wasn't curled up on the sofa with me.

  23. I'm flattered - and touched!

  29. I agree with at least 50% of those which is pretty good going. I'd like to add the late, great Frankie Howerd, Charlie Brooker and David Mitchell.
