Yossi |
I usually read when I am on the train, but as My Ipad has dragged my sorry arse into the 21st Century this year, I have downloaded a few cinematic and TV treats to enjoy as the slow train chugs through Manchester and over the Pennines to Sheffield.
My arthouse watch is Yossi, an Israeli film which centres upon the long term grief and loss suffered by a former defence force soldier for his fellow officer and partner, who was killed in the Lebanon.....while my indulgent watches will be two episodes from the first series of The Walking Dead
and the Norwegian Horror movie Død Snø ( Dead Snow).
Don't worry, I have headphones |
I am not meeting up with the first of my friends until early evening, so will have a few hours city time this afternoon......
I will do John Lewis, have a mooch around the city, and if the mood takes me, will even buy myself a superior quality scotch Egg from the deli on West Street to eat slowly and carefully in the Peace Gardens next to the city hall
I am so easily pleased...........
Thanks for the movie recommend - love stuff like that! Have a lovely time
ReplyDeleteYossi sounds like it is worth a watch.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!!
ReplyDeleteGood gawd i finally got here near the top ...of course it is 3 am here .. but it is nice to be with you on the train . I am looking forward to the Peace Garden and eating Scotch eggs next to the town hall, perhaps I should nap first or I shall be cranky like a box of frogs.
ReplyDeleteThat's so weird, I just downloaded Yossi too but haven't watched it yet! It's sort of the follow up to 2002's Yossi and Jagger... did you see that? Enjoy your mini break.
ReplyDeleteIt has an excellent review and has won aload of awards....so it should be a good watch
DeleteA small point for non Sheffield folk - the Peace Gardens are next to the Town Hall (council offices), not the City Hall (rather splendid concert hall). See you later!
ReplyDeleteI was using the " city" rather than the " town" so that simple non sheffield folk may understand......sigh
DeleteHave fun, John! Hope that Scotch egg was delicious.
ReplyDeleteAs Titles John, that takes some beating.
ReplyDeleteI am becoming seriously worried about a) your addiction to very weird movies and b) your addiction to scotch eggs.
You will recall that in the old Peace Gardens winos and cheap cider drinking fellows would sometimes gather, repelling passers-by. Funny that the more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?
ReplyDeleteI've been to a few greasy-spoons like that cafe too.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean.. "IF" the mood takes you.. ?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rusty Duck. Change the "IF" to a "When". It's better to be honest with yourself. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave fun.
Sounds a perfect day. Enjoy yourself.
ReplyDeletehey...you are on holiday....eat two scotch eggs!
ReplyDeleteThere's a monument in Lebanon for all the times it's been invaded. It's quite a big monument, and in recent decades it features Israel quite a lot. Hopefully the film points out that perhaps the Israeli soldier shouldn't have been there in the first place. Ouch. Needed to vent my spleen on that one....enjoy your Scotch eggs!
ReplyDeleteYou're not wearing that bloody hat are you?
ReplyDeleteJane x
Have a great time John and enjoy those foreign scotch eggs. I refrained from ordering an Asda one but I may just be being prejudiced there. Perhaps they do an 'Extra Special' one....
ReplyDeletePS - did this drawings arrive okay? x
Peace Garden - is that where the fountain is? It is quite peaceful, at least it is when students aren't celebrating their passing out parade by jumping in and out of the water jets!
ReplyDeletehave fun!!!
ReplyDeleteand im such a blonde - Im reading on that photo "Dont dead open inside"...??? and then I notice the hands LOL "ohhhh, i get it now.." LOL
Im doomed if theres a zombie thing happening...
hahaha! That's what I read too! There'll be two of us doomed :)
DeleteMake that three.
DeleteAhem.....four.
DeleteAh - doom-dom is not a lonely place after all- Ill bring the chablis and brie!!
DeleteDear John,
ReplyDeletethank you for adding a new want-to-visit in London: the Peace Garden is now on my list (as is the Imperial War Museum).
Have a great break, hopefully the weather will be kind to you!
ReplyDeleteJohn, You are my kind of guy!
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with being easily pleased. Hope you had a wonderful time, John. ♥
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip! Easily pleased means a happy life, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a super outing. What the heck. Have three Scotch eggs. Calories and cholesterol don't count when you're on vacation.
