Eggy Ducklings

Things remain a little insular here
I am still acting a bit like an over active Mother hen
I am not complaining....
No more fox attacks......( touch wood)
As yet!
Thought I would post a duckling update.
unfortunately one little chap died suddenly a few days ago
But these two are doing well
Enjoy

  2. John, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly ducklings grow. Living off the land in the Highlands, eons ago, we had one clutch of ducklings. In the blink of an eye they morphed into ducks. All male unfortunately, so self sufficiency being what it is... well you know what happened!

  4. Aw! How sweet! How about a naming competition? I have thought of two great names for them. The one on the left - Donald! And the one on the right - Daffy! Ha! Ha! Original eh?

  5. I held a couple of baby ducklings at the beginning of the week, Flim and Flam. They were only a week old and were in a Kindergarten classroom (4 years old). Never held a baby duckling before.

Posted a funny on my blog today.

  12. You have a beautiful voice, John. And I thought, should I ever meet you, I'd not understand you, (my ear, like my accent is guttural, LOL!)but I heard every word. Your garden is gorgeous and the ducklings are too cute for words. Have a great day. Jo

  13. The eggs look 'disgusting'? Not at all! Looks quite yummy to me. Perhaps next time you could slide a piece of toast under it for them.

Btw: Just as a point of interest, does one feed ducklings with DUCK eggs?

  23. Nice to have a walk along your garden path, John. You have a lovely garden, and in time I hope that I shall have a garden too somewhere here, rather than just a few shrubs stuck in a portion of what once was a field.

Lester hatched four goslings, one died, and the others were very up and down, one minute OK, the next almost at death's door. Then I intervened and started giving them scrambled egg regularly, and crikey, off like a rocket they went! They are now and about with the other geese. Hope your two little ducklings continue to thrive.

  26. Not knowing anything about rearing ducklings, I'm intrigued by the bright light. Does the light keep them happy and healthy?

  28. The lamp gives the pair warmth.....ducklings are robust but need to be kept warm at all times and generally dry..... They chill easily

Sorry to hear you lost one, but it looks like these will keep you busy once they are a little more sure of themselves. :-)
