The Rector's Bun's

John & James- two semi finalists in the Bake off!
The Italian restaurant that we took the vicar to produced a so-so kind of meal, but we had quite a Jolly time because as it turned out, the Robert is quite a fan of BBC's The Great British Bake off, so over a glass of Chianti we conspiratorially slagged off the know all Brendan and waxed lyrically over the virtues of John's recent gingerbread Colosseum.
The vicar  confided to us that he was in fact a dab hand at the old baking lark, so immediately I struck a bit of a coup and conscripted him for entries in our 2013 Trelawnyd Flower Show!
The village ladies and I  will be wetting ourselves in anticipation of seeing just how well his Victoria sponge turns out!.....
Here's hoping he can come up with the goods!
The challenge is ON!

ps I also just want to say a quick thank you to all of the readers of this daily diary. For some obscure reason I am now having around 1000 page view hits daily and up to 400 people log in for updates on my sheep taming, chicken tales and my own, slightly obscure reality stories of village life.
It's a small life to share, but I am grateful for being able to do so, it's my therapy
hey ho x

  2. Johns Colesseum was really good but the old barn that James made was brilliant ........ bloody Brendan needs to get out of the '70's hole that he's in !! Shame Cathryn went .... I liked her.
Sounds as if dinner was a success and that 'Robert' is now your BFF ! XXXX

And if he's reading; Hello Vicar!

  7. A thousand hits a day, from all over the world, even Darkest Africa, and 400 subscribers, doesn't that say something?

Write a flaming E Book for goodness sake! Sift through your vast literary output and edit them into four books about village life, Spring in Trelawnyd, Summer in..., Autumn, Winter for example.

I see children's books as well: 'Nurse John Feeds the Animals', 'Nurse John Goes to Town' (perhaps not that one), 'Nurse John Cleans his Berlingo' (you could get some serious sponsorship from the manufacturers of heavy duty detergents).

Look, it's only an idea but I reckon you are missing a trick.

  8. Surely the rectum will be especially good at baking bread to save money at holy communion... I think Mr Hippopotamus is on to something there. There could even be a linked TV series a bit like "The Victorian Farm" but called "The Welsh Village"...Cue rustic theme music "And now BBC one returns to Trelawnyd where plans for the annual flower show are in full swing..."....."Hi! I'm Earl Gray and this is my village..."

  11. I have been reading all the way back-you have the same quality of writing that could spawn a series. A bit like the Larkin's with a twist, or The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a Mountain. People like Characters and daily adventures and your diary/blog is rich with both.

  15. I'm just sorry I don't have time to read you every day....it's a pleasure when I do get to you.

I have to disagree with you about Catherine though. I liked her to start with but found her little girliness a bit tiring as she gained confidence! I'm rooting for James and John now. Is it just me, or should Sue do something about her choice of teenage boy trouser style? Other than that, she's gorgeous....

Do you know, I saw links and comments about your blog for the longest time, but resisted reading because I already had so many to keep up with. Now, as with hundreds of others, I am a happy addict. In spite of your protests in regards to your true nature, your humanity makes up for many, many of the Blue Meanies out there on the interwebs.

It's also through your blog that I found the delightful Donna, Tom, dear Cro and several others...for which I must thank you.

  29. I've been a follower from the beginning John. I have actually collapsed laughing at some of your posts (lost my breath I did). I remember one post, can't find it now - when you had the dogs in the back of the car, you'd been to the beach, and one of them messed in the car. Well, John, I thought I was going to have a coronary. Long may you keep it up. You cheer us all up - just what we need.
