Dogs On The Beach

William, a dog with a personality as sweet as Gone with the Wind's Melanie
We are blessed with good natured dogs. Not that a sweet nature is a mere accident of birth., animals like dogs that are nurtured well in a pack, more often than not develop a gentleness and sociability ideal for sharing a house with.
Welsh Terriers are robust, inquisitive and happy dogs. They also have a rather sweet habit of sitting and watching something that they are unsure of or have not experienced before.  This behaviour gives them a somewhat benign  demeanour and the "look"of an all seeing teddy bear.

Even though we live in the deep and green Welsh countryside, Trelawnyd is, in fact only a couple of miles from the sea as the crow flies (it is not an easy walk as we are around 600 feet above the coastal plain) The beaches are open, often deserted and ideal for dogs, as they can run and run until their tongues loll and their legs wobble

Is it George or is it a ventriloquists dummy?

  1. Beautiful photos of all of you. It looks like the perfect morning jaunt. My parents' now passed golden retriever loved, loved, loved the beach and the water. I believe it kept him healthy for nearly all of his 15 wonderful years. Never met a happier dog.

  2. If George is a ventriloquist's dummy, I dread to think where your right arm is!

Do you get to the beach often? Lucky that you have one nearby, John.....a great escape.

  7. *sigh* I do wish our open beaches were like yours to let the dogs run, but ours are usually "packed" with people. I posted a little video on my blog which I think is something you could use for those sheep of yours? Loved the beach photos, thank you for sharing, John.

  11. Dogs are almost always as nice as their owners, John - and it is certainly so in your case. Have you ever read John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley? In it he says that dogs can read your mind - my dog certainly can and I guess yours can too.

  15. Just love your dogs and how much fun it would be to take them to the beach..to run and run and get some fresh air and exercise.. My son took their dog to Lake Mighigan where you have to keep your dog on a leash.. Cost him $250 because his dog was not on a leash..
Love the video from cindy@northofwiaton "Run Rabblit Run".. didn't know rabbits could herd sheep.. Everyone should watch that video.. it was delightful..

  25. I think that our days with our dogs are the same, John--Just the view is different! I would so enjoy a trip to your beach, and I wonder who would enjoy it more, me or the pups--Again, just like you and your dogs!

  26. The last time I was on that stretch of beach, I found thousands of cockles just below the sand. Delicious.

My boys would love to join your two there for a good run. Open spaces and water... the perfect combo.

  28. That's the thing about dogs. When they give of themselves they give their ALL. Unlike cats who, when they don't regard you as a nuisance (bless 'em), look on you as a means to their own comforts, be it as food-supplier or source of warmth.
Dogs have the ability to APPRECIATE.
