Scones, Yellow Walls And A Despot's Big Up

Auntie Glad's infamous scones

The weather yesterday was truly atrocious. I ventured out only to look after the animals and to walk the dogs. Old Islwyn Thomas was the only villager I met when I was braving the rain in the morning....He cheerfully called out that he didn't think that we would have many entries for the flower show this year because of the wet.......apparently he says every year: a fact that Auntie Gladys  reminded me of a little later when I was summonsed by telephone to collect the scones she had promised would be ready in the early evening
The weather was getting Gladys down somewhat as she has reported with some frustration that she has only sold 100 ticket books for the Flower Show raffle since Friday because of the blustery conditions!.....
ONLY 100!
the woman is bloody 92 for god's sake!

Anyhow,I spent the entire  damp, day cleaning then painting the office, and below is a small taster of the "work in progress"
I will refrain from a "changing rooms" type reveal, until Chris returns home from Cambridge on Thursday (which is very restrained of me I think)
I think he should be the first to see his newly appointed  custard yellow office!

I will leave my "thoughts for the day" with a final big up for cheerful village despot Jason who is taking part in the three peaks challenge on the 7th of July in aid of the Cancer Unit at our local hospital.
His "Just Giving" page can be seen at http://www.justgiving.com/Jason-Randa0
He'll have legs like over stretched elastic bands when he's finished!
Good luck matey

  2. That's a yummy color, John! Auntie Glad's scones look heavenly. My lady's attempts at scones look like that Horta creature from Star Trek - and probably taste like it too. Blech.

  4. You will know more about this than I do, but isn't that 'custard yellow' the colour most avoided by mental hospitals because of the disturbing effect that it has on patients?

  5. I like yellow. I had a yellow bathroom once. No-one else liked it though. :-(

  8. That yellow looks lovely, I am looking forward to 'the reveal'. Aunt Glad's scones look fabulous - is there any chance she would share the recipe? The village show is coming up next month and I have a reputation to maintain.

  11. 100 books???!! Wow seriously impressive!

Hope Chris likes yellow...are there going to be black stripes so it looks like a bumble bee?

  12. Custard Yellow?! Have you lost all your senses man? Shouldn't an office be blue? Pretty much any organisation I've worked for they've been blue or grey or grey and blue... hint of green once or twice but ... never yellow ;-)

  13. Does Chris actually like yellow?

  15. Interesting the colour of that room - when I saw the photo I thought it was custard you are putting on the walls - so spot on with the colour. I think Cro's idea of rhubarb window - or curtains - is good too - do you remember those old thubard and custard lollies, or are you too young?

  16. Great yellow. She'd sell a lot more raffle tickets in Chris' new office than on those mean grey streets!

  17. We have exhausted all the words for rain here in Cornwall must invent some new ones! Scones by Auntie Gladys look A* gold medal status.

  18. Ooooh, I love a good scone, me.

A nice yellow to counteract all that rain, eh.

  20. Custard yellow. I would love to have the job of naming paint colors. (This one appears to fit.)

Some years ago, Jerry painted his home office "pineapple soda." I wondered if that meant it was going to be an "unnatural" pineapple color. It turned out to be "lemon."

I haven't had a good scone in years. And I'll bet Auntie Glad's are better than anything I've ever had.

    Hope the weather clears!

  22. It's a lovely yellow, and yes, custard comes to mind so who wouldn't love it !
I can see Chris now, slogging away at the desk whirling projects around in his head, energized by being bathed in sunshiny walls :)
    { Drool} Auntie Glad's scones !

  24. I think that I love Auntie Glad and hope that I will be making scones and selling raffle tickets when I'm her age. Good on her.
....and, I think that Tom has got that wrong.....I remember someone saying that it's 'plum'or 'mauve' that gets people all suicidal. XXXX
