The vet seemed more relaxed than I have been.
He seems to think that Mabel has a stomach bug
I was almost convinced she had somehow found some rat poison
When it comes to bulldogs, losing Constance so theatrically outside the Church gates has left me, I know, with an unhealthy neurosis when unwell dogs are concerned.
Despite eating some chicken and rice,
The big lump of bulldog remains listless, uncomfortable and obviously sick.
I don't worry about any of my patients as much as I do about her.
Poor John -- I hope your dear Constance is up and back to her old self very soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Mabel, John. Hope she will soon recover but I can understand you are extra nervous after what happened with Constance.
ReplyDeleteThinking of of you both - hope she makes a fast recovery.
ReplyDeleteHope she feels better soon!
ReplyDeletePoor Mabel, I hope she feels better soon.x

ReplyDeleteDespite what The Broad says, I hope that Mabel gets well soon. Broad's comment reminded me of that old Wilkie Collins story, 'Whistle and I'll Come to you, My Lad".
ReplyDeleteOh no..poor Mabel.
ReplyDeleteTry her with a baked potato too...as good as the rice.
Keep us posted.
Not Mabel! Get well soon, cutie-pie. We're all rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteHope this bug goes away soon.
ReplyDeleteOMG, Albert, now Mabel ! Speedy recovery to her & your "shattered" nerves. I would be sick over it myself! xo
ReplyDeletePoor Mabel. Hope she's better soon xx
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Mabel-dog.
ReplyDeletePoor Mabel, I hope she gets better quick and puts you out of your misery. (So to speak)

Can't bear sick animals....i'm just a bag of worry...I'm sure she will be fine....she's such a sweet girl...
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Mabel.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you John
Sending good thoughts. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteI'll add my hopes to rest, that Mabel will feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, John.
Big doggie love to Mabel from Ellie and Roobarb xxx
ReplyDeleteI know it's shite when animals go sick, even bulldogs. And particularly Mabel. Trouble is they can't tell you what hurts, where it hurts. All you have is a vet's verdict - and, lucky you, in your case: Instinct.
ReplyDeleteMabel will ride it out.

ReplyDeleteI hope Mabel is feeling back to her old self soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope she will be ok
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling she may have a chest infection.. due to see the vet tomorrow am
Sorry to hear that Mabel is under the weather. Hope she is ok and just has a little bug. You sound like me the way I worry over my cat. I've spent a small fortune on different premium and organic canned cat foods for her and she will only eat dry cat food. I worry about her kidney function and water intake all the time! She won't eat my cooking either. Enough said about that! Anyway, hope Mabel is back to her old self by tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope she is up and feeling better soon. We can't help but worry about our 4 legged babies.
ReplyDeleteConnie
Poor Mabel and poor John worrying about poor Mabel. Hope she shows signs of improvement soon.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Come on Mabel, please eat something.
ReplyDeleteAwwww! Mabel is unwell - poor doggy! Get well soon Mabel. Denny-the-Dog sends his best regards.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Get well soon, sweet Mabel.
ReplyDeleteBefore you know it John, Mabel will be back to her regular self!
ReplyDeleteOh, no, not Mabel. Just give her lots of those kisses that she comes to you for, in spite of Meg, and she will get well soon. She is such a love.
ReplyDeleteYour poor frazzled nerves. Just breathe. That vet had better be on his game.
Will be thinking of Mabel and you.
Ohhh, poor Mabel. Get well soon, pup. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteI do hope that Mabel is better soon and your worries about her are eased.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that Constance is feeling poorly - I know that we all worry so much about them when they're sick.
ReplyDeleteHere's to hoping for a speedy recovery!
Listen to the vet, Mabel, and get well.
ReplyDeleteI'm adding my best wishes for Mabel to all the rest - get well soon, Mabel. And try not to get too stressed, John. I hope all goes well with the vet tomorrow (or is it today?)
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor Mabel. Give her lots of love. Sending positive thoughts to you all!
ReplyDeleteWill she take milk?
ReplyDeleteDogs were regularly poisoned in France and the remedy was milk to help douse the toxin...followed by lemon juice to clear the system.
About 2 litres of milk over one hour.
Same thing here in Costa Rica for cane toad venom.
Oh, dear! So sorry to hear about Mabel.
ReplyDeleteDo hope she gets better, quickly!
Hope Mabel feels better soon!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel. Having a dog is similar in many ways to having a young child. They can't tell us what is wrong or where they hurt. My newest rescue, Cricket, had a tummy ache today as well. It was a pretty obvious diagnosis since she left tell-tale signs indoors as well as outdoors! Apparently, eating grass really does work! It appears that she'd swallowed a bit too much of her rag/rope toy! I hope Mable's condition is as easily remedied.
ReplyDeletePoor old gal. There are so many things that can upset a dog's stomach; especially out in the countryside. A bit of TLC methinks.
ReplyDeleteOh we do hope Mabel is feeling better very soon!
ReplyDeleteDear Mabel,
ReplyDeleteJohn needs you. Buck up
Love, Donna
Poor Mabel, I hope she is feeling better soon.XXXX
ReplyDeleteOuch. It's a worry with animals because they can't tell you where or how it hurts, all that guessing is exhausting. Give the ol' gal a hug from me please!
ReplyDeleteIt's so worrying when a beloved pet is ill, simply because they can't tell us where it hurts and we always fear the worst.
ReplyDeleteHope she is better soon.
a few of my friends' dogs have been sick with some weird throwing up deal - only lasted a few days but it seems to have been doing the rounds a bit.... pretty strong bug by all accounts.... hope it's nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteGive Mabel a stroke and a pat from me.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Mabel.
ReplyDeletex
Poor baby...give her a hug from me.
ReplyDeleteI saw the heading for this post and gasped audibly but I read on and just hope she is making a good recovery and your neurosis has settled.
