Every Year at this time, Chris can be found on the couch, waving his flag to the BBC 's production of The Last Night Of The Proms...and enjoying every bloody minute of it all...
Although I love Classical Music..... over a decade listening to "Rule Britannia" clutching my double gin and tonic. , is a little too much...even for me..so whilst Chris was wiggling his Union Jack... I donned the old headphones and listened to perhaps one of the most talented of modern classical composers.. the film composer John Williams.
His soundtrack for the film EMPIRE OF THE SUN is quite, quite beautiful especially the piece Cadillac of the Skies.....this is the only version I could find that will play on blogger
but see the original at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD4Xyb2LJsA its much better
Perhaps one day he will be played at the Last Night of The Proms
He deserves to be
That is so beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI LOVE John Williams. His film scores are magnificent. All his awards were so well deserved.
ReplyDeleteThe classical purists seem to look down their noses at film scores....Can't think why!

ReplyDeleteLove John Williams...another great is Ennio Morricone...yo yo ma has a cd playing his work that is over the moon....... !!!
ReplyDeleteHe's up there with John Barry in my book. Empire of the Sun was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSorry John but I am a sucker for the Last Night of the Proms too - Lang Lang was amazing (I am a pianist myself so do appreciate a genius playing). Missed the seasongs though. The first performance Peter Maxwell Davies was also interesting. Do you know his piece Farewell to Stromness? If not you can hear it on YouTube. Wonderful.
