An odd little moment

The Gop old road
Today I saw something just a little strange
It was nothing frightening
It was nothing overly weird
It was just , well "odd"

There is an old road which snakes around  the base of the Gop ( for those that don't know yet,, The Gop is the Hill which overlooks the Village) This road is overshadowed by trees which form a dappled tunnell in the summer which always remains dark, cool and silent.
I walk here every day as Constance hates full sun and as usual we walked the length of the road to where a badger set overlooks Gwaenysgor and all sat down for a rest.
The dogs all crowd around me when I sit on the ground and as we rested I turned my head and looked back up the old road to where there is a slight bend partly obscured by bushes.
Almost immediately I saw a dog which looked like a collie sniffing at the ground, I couldn't see it clearly as it was around 100 metres away but I saw that it was light in colour and immediately I clipped William ( who always runs after strange dogs)  and George back onto their leads. As I looked back down the lane, I expected to see the dog and its owner walking towards us, but all I did see was a man who looked as though he was carrying a large branch of a tree. The man moved the branch from the  centre of the lane and laid it down at the side of the road, so expecting him to walk towards me , I called Meg and clipped her back onto her lead as well, but as I looked again at the turn in the path both man and his dog was no longer there.
He must  have seen us all and retraced his steps I thought ( four dogs are often off putting for a lone dog walker), and as I stood up to start the walk back, Constance ran forward for perhaps a dozen yards with her head held high, looking intently at the spot I had seen the man and dog.
The other dogs were all heaped around me  like a load of scatter cushions and noticed nothing, only Constance knew another dog was around!

I thought nothing of all this until we came to the slight turn in the road on our way back to the car.
For, as I  checked the road sides.. I noted that there was no branch to be seen!, not anywhere...

Now isnt that just a little odd?

Did any of the othe dogs pick up on it?

Sounds like your plane of existence temporarily crossed over with some one else's. Does this sort of thing happen occasionally with you?

  7. Did the hairs stand up on the back of your neck John?

My pooch Faith, regularly 'follows' invisible objects around the room as though watching something hovering about. Very unnerving but not scary at all.

Our house has a presence. Very distinctive sounding light switches turn on and off in the night, odd, glowing balls of light have been seen floating next to the bed etc. I've become used to it now.

Does the lane have any relevant history attached to it?

  8. You may be blessed with the "sight". Could be a past or future event...I would look for that limb every day. Also, since Constance did see them, too, watch her, this could get interesting.

no I didnt really think about this until I got home....
THEN I thought it was a bit weird
    ....

perhaps it is my imagination, but Constance NEVER reacts to other dogs ( you can set off a firework under her arse and she wont jump)

you are beginning to freak me out

  15. P.S. - That's a nice, ancient road. I like it - I may even haunt it in a few years time.

  16. Either your are way over-working yourself and imagined all this, or you have that 'power/sense' to see these 'things'.
Being a complete non-believer in 'ghosts', I am sure it all can be explained.

  17. I can imagine you haunting an antique shop Tom.

Customers would run out screaming in terror, candlesticks sticking out of their arses...

  18. When you go digging up the past, don't be suprised when some of it comes looking for you.

  19. I agree, a little odd. Eyes playing tricks? Constance catching your attention? Aah, you never know, John.

  24. Great isn't it. You sit down for a quick joint, and you start seeing weird things.

    Nice road.

  25. I don't think it's odd, in light of my 'other work', you must have been in a good space within yourself, and was able to 'connect' with what is around us but is mostly disregarded. It's in preparation for more to come, bless you. And Constance's behaviour was able to confirm for you that for a moment you did 'see'.

  26. Just a bit but then life is full of these odd little moments don't you find?

  27. It's either spooky or you're being stalked by an old man and an albino collie.

  28. A friend of mine told me he was out in the woods foraging, when he saw an old man fishing. He thought nothing of it, but afterwards realised that the old man had been wearing top hat and tails. He retraced his steps, and discovered that there was no old man, nor any water, nor any woods, and he was really naked in the Frozen Food aisle at Tescos.

I'll say the same to you as I said to him: You're a mentalist!

  29. Yes indeed John, it is odd. There was probably a quite rational explanation but that quiet lane (which looks lovely by the way) is probably the kind of place where shadows and mystery lurk.

I love your description of your dogs as scatter cushions. Interesting that Constance doesn't like full sun. My pug, Algy, who has been dead a few years now, hated the hot weather as he found it so hard to breathe.

  30. It was definitely a ghost or something like one.
My father, the most down to earth and rational person on the planet, had a similar experience a few years ago. He was totally bewildered and almost beside himself that he couldn't find a rational explanation for it, but sometimes there just isn't one.

  31. I thought that Weaver was going to say, "My pug, Algy, who has been dead a few years now, HATES the hot weather as he found it so hard to breathe" That would have been spooky.

  32. Strange things happen at times on the trails, but usually when the light is failing and my other senses take over a little from sight. But to see something so clear in the day? Mmmmm not a great believer in spooks n things so I'm thinking that you've just bumbled into somebody who perhaps didn't want to be observed....then again...
    Regards,
    John

  35. Ghosts, of course! Simples...
Thanks for the invite to the show, John. I would love to have come but we will be at Elder Daughter's that weekend as we are all going to see grandson Paul in his drama group's show in Bradford. Maybe next year, though...

  36. Sounds alright to me John...just parallel Universes briefly transecting...not so strange.

  37. What Stew said actually makes sense. And yes - I kept hearing the theme from the Twilight Zone playing in my head while reading about your "encounter". Such fun! Who knew that sweet and slightly dense Constance would have the gift of "sight"?

  38. Sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone!
