St David ( Dewi Sant) is the patron saint of Wales who was born in the 5th Century. He was the founder of the monastic community in Mid Wales at Glyn Rhosin ( which means Valley of the Roses) and was famous for his good works and teachings.
Generally the day is marked by the wearing of a daffodil (I noticed all of the village school children were all wearing miniature daffodils) but I always remember wearing a small leek on my school jumper when I was a small child....
Just out of interest, yesterday the Empire State Building was lit up in the Welsh Colours of Red , Green and White
Now I can actually sing the National Anthem!
Working tonight
The Empire State Building was actually lit up in the colours of Hungary and the leek was probably not on your jumper but inside your trousers!
ReplyDeleteoh I stand corrected pud....I was convinced it was every year at this time it is the welsh colours on the empire state!
ReplyDeleteas for the leak

I have just re checked re The Empirre State colours for the 1st March
ReplyDeletethe colours were RED , WHITE AND bLUE for the Peace Corps, 50th Anniversary
Did you see Kate Middleton singing the Welsh National Anthem on TV? Some Welshman wrote to the Times to say you could make a good impression by singing a verse which started "My hen laid a haddock........"
ReplyDeleteHello John. I was sent over to your blog by Razmataz as I have a sick duck with bumblefoot and she thought you may have advice. She is on her second type of antibiotics, we've been to the vet four times in a week, and I've been shooting the medicine in orally with a syringe (no needle)
ReplyDeletedo you have any advice for bumblefoot or giving ducks medicine? It's getting harder each day, as she hates the new taste she doesn't seem to be getting better. There is no black on her foot, as we caught it early.
any help or tips would be so appreciated.
Heather
Is it significant that I found out yesterday that one of the defenders of the Alamo was Lewis Johnson from Wales? (There could be more but he was the only one specifically identified as being from Wales.)
ReplyDeleteBumblefoot is a staph infection so antibiotics is the right treatment.
ReplyDeleteHas the vet given you any topical treatment as well?
I have only had one duck with it and I had to drain the abcess every day ( just a quick squeeze of the wound and a spray of antibacterial spray)
did the vet give you a syringe to give the antibiotic? they never like the taste do they?
good luck
Hello John....happy "Dewi Sant" day!
ReplyDeleteHope your day was a good one.
Maura :)
I hope you have a quiet evening. ♥
ReplyDeleteI’m a bit of a hybrid mix of Gaelic, Anglo Saxon and French Huguenot ancestry me, which always left me a bit ‘challenged’ and ‘wanting’ in the anthem department until one windy day when I heard this composition being performed in the adjacent public toilet stall.
ReplyDeleteI have now adopted this as my official spiritual anthem on my own chosen patron saints celebration of ‘St Gasfhu Day’, every April 1st.
Here is the link John: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JaHyxbSiG4
Note: Please respect my anthem here by listening to it only while stood to attention, with your trousers at half mast and a wetted right thumb in your right ear. Thank You. P.
I know I'm a day late John...but Happy St. David's Day! daffodils for everyone I say!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saint David's Day!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best national anthems IMO... quite stirring. Thanks for posting it.

ReplyDelete"Be joyful, and keep your faith and your creed. Do the little things that you have seen me do and heard about. I will walk the path that our fathers have trod before us."
ReplyDeleteFrom St David's last sermon the Sunday before he dies - at 100yrs age.
'Do the little things in life' translates as: 'Gwnewch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd'
