Postscript

Just a quick note to add to the previous post
The wind has increased again
I have lost the ghost hen house roof ( they were still sat in their nest boxes when I got to them) and the turkey house roof went for a burton at 5pm.
What's with the weather?

I hope you found your roofs and got them attached again! That's windy!

  3. Our weather warning:

"Issued at 4:23 am Saturday, 5 February 2011.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in NSW and the ACT.The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
    * Keep clear of fallen power lines.
    * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
    * Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
    * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.

I don't understand the need to list all the precautions if the threat is past? Or is it only past until the monitoring says its back?????

  4. Hi John! We had really high winds here the other night too and lost power--I don't know where it all came from, but I guess it's gotten to you! I guess the ghost hens were to big to be blown away too? ;-)

    Take care and stay safe!

  8. The weather is crazy everywhere.
I suspect it is related to the changing magnetic poles...

I hope all of your flock will be okay!

  10. Global Warming,my friend. Those people who say this is not it because it is cold.....dumb, sorry, but they are dumb! Global warming means more snowfall in unlikely places, more severe ocean storms, more fires, more volcanoes, more and more violent weather patterns. You are just a part of it, as am I here in the mountains where we have not even had 10 inches of snow this season. We should have had at least 200 inches by now!

  17. I guess you have had gale force winds. I hope your cottage doesn't end up in Oz! Hold onto your hat!!

We had a HIGH of 44f on Wed., setting an all time record for Feb. in Phoenix...a full 30 degrees colder than the norm!! We'll be back in the 70's by Monday they say.

    Strange weather everywhere. Stay safe.

This could very well be the winter we define as THE WINTER to our grandchildren. A barefoot-uphill-both-ways kind of winter. My ma grew up in a mountain town that, one year, had such heavy snow the roads in and out of the place were shut down. Cattle ranching was a main industry and all the herds were stranded out in deep snow where they couldn't reach their hay. The government finally got involved flying in bales of hay in helicopters to drop by the trapped cows because otherwise thousands of head would have died.
Are we there yet this year? Yikes!
