A Little Moment Of Sweetness

I could have done without the chatty ( and expensive) chimney sweep
Certainly I could have done without this heavy snotty head cold I have inherited
And certainly I could have done without the gear stick coming loose when I was motoring up a 1 in 4 hill in the pouring rain yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday  I could have quite easily shut myself into a dark room with a damp tea towel over my face.
But no matter how unwell you feel, cars need taking to the garage, gobby chimney sweeps need paying, suppers need cooking and dogs need walking.

Last night I did the final dog walk in a pair of fisherman's socks and Chris' pyjamas......and unfortunately "flashed" at some late night farm traffic for my sins ( its easy to forget that pyjama bottoms "gape" at the fly when you are feeling like death)...luckily no one reported me to the police , which is a good thing seeing that I am now conscripted onto the Trelawnyd Community Council)

So this morning, after a sleepless and cough laden night, I covered up the pyjamas with some more suitable pants and went out in the wet to water and feed the birds.
When you feel like crap everyone needs a bit of a lift..........I have had two today.........Chris brought me a welcomed cup of lemsip in bed first thing..............and the second little moment of sweetness was a simple gentle contact with a white goose!
As I opened the goose house door, the magpie ducks noisily shot through the door followed by the geese, and as I stepped back to let them pass, I stumbled back a little and sat down heavily in the muddy grass with a splat!

I could have cried with the moment's frustration, and for a second or two I didn't know whether to cough, swear, sniff , sneeze, or fart so just sat there pathetically in the muck! As I didn't move Winnie, the gander stopped, turned and looked at me with his big blue eyes , he lent forward and for the briefest moment nuzzled my neck like he used to do when he was gosling before honking off after Jo and the others.

It was a tiny moment.....but it has made my day

  2. The village 'flasher' you'll be adding a new title to your name!
I had to laugh, trying to imagine you in the pajamas and fisherman's socks, a sight for sore eyes...
Now a goose nuzzle what could be better :)
Hope you get over your cold fast.

  3. Lovely story. I am convinced that the animals know when you need something. Dogs definitely do.
My early morning dog walking attire leaves a lot be desired too. Normally no-one sees me as I am always up first by a long way, but the other day MOH was up a bit earlier and caught me wearing .....
My dressing gown, black fleecy socks, my decathlon snow boots and the best of all, a tartan wooly scarf round my head and shoulders.
MOH said I looked like Romanian bag lady. You will be pleased to know that I only walk around the garden dressed like that, not on the road.

  4. I do have this vision of you walking down the road dressed like that. Hope you feel better. Nothing worse than a bad cold. Stay warm and eat chicken soup.

  6. Whenever I sneak out dressed in what passes for "leisure wear" around here, I am doomed to bump into Kate Moss or the Archbishop of Canterbury who just happened to be passing by at that very moment...Get well soon, honey and lemon, kathy.

I had to laugh at you flashing.

  8. was this a sexual experience for you, John?

  9. Yes, the joy is in the tiny moments.

I still had to laugh just a little, sorry!

Your gear shift reminds me of a visit to Walmart, they discovered my shift was about gone, no parts in town so they go to the plumbing section and repair it with a toilet part...still working to this day.

Heal and hope your days are filled with many tiny moments.

  13. Even though he's all grown up, you're still Whinie's mommy. The first feed for the horses is 7am. If it's cold, I wear my bib overalls over my nightie and my Elmer Fudd hat. Lovely.

  17. Chimney sweep? Don't you have little boys in Wales? I know they too come with snotty noses but at least when they're done you can just give 'em a clip round t'ear and tell 'em to shut up and bugger off, and it saves on all that paying nonsense.

There is nothing worse than a cold for making everything twice as hard to do and all on a sleepless night, you have my sympathy and I hope you are feeling better soon.

By the way before you start performing council duties on me I was only joking about my method of cleaning chimney's.

  18. Aww John that's a wonderful image. Not the gaping PJ's but you pathetically sitting in the muck and your gander giving you a little 'get well' nuzzle. It's those little moments that are so special. Hope you had a good rest today and are feeling much better.

  24. If it weren't for Chris making you a lemsip and the tiny moment in the mud with Winnie, I do believe you would have a totally rotten day. I do hope you get some rest somehow and get well soon!

You may want to use a pin next time you're outside in your pajamas?

And that's why we love our animals isn't it? The great givers of little moments.
The flashing is indeed an exquisite image, but what I really can't shake is that of the mucky butt. Did it drip when you stood back up? :-)

  26. Good Winnie. I'm glad he made you happy. It sure sounds like you needed that little bit of love.

Do you have ginger ale in Wales? It's great comfort for a cold.

  29. I too was so very happy to hear of Chris's thoughtful gesture and do hope that you're feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself kind sir! There are so many who count on you. Including that young gander who picked the most opportune time to let you know that you are, indeed, appreciated...

  33. When I was very young I had a gear stick come off when I was in reverse on the ground floor of a multi storey car park. I drove backwards all the way to the top floor before being rescued!

  36. Bwahahaha. You're still cracking me up!! Heaven forbid anyone sees me when I stumble outside in the wee hours with my nightie on. I could scare the dead! And that little goosie nuzzle was a touching moment. Awwwwww. See John, you draw out all our emotions! lol.

  40. Ah, such moments lift the soul. In a bit of a down mood yesterday, went out past the sheep and one of them lifted her head and said hello. Made me smile. Animals are great to live with, and seem to know when we need a bit of loving. Hope you feel better soon.

  41. Ah, the joys of country living. I think those of us who live there tend to get a mite relaxed in dressing for chores. Who needs more than barn-boots and a long tee to go open the coops and give the dogs a quick run? Works great right up until someone turns into the drive and you're stuck there like a deer in the headlights. Thank god for Chris and the gander for saving what was truly a sh*t sandwich day. HUGS! k
