Piece Of Cake

One of the donated cakes...delivered yesterday

The cakes have started to roll in in drips and drabs
Over fifty people from the village have " volunteered " to bake for Sunday
I have a lot to do today
Tea tables and chairs  need collecting,
As do a set of loaned crisp white tablecloths
Donated raffle prizes from the Garden Centre need picking up,
Health and safety signs need laminating
And after a " dry run" of decorating the field...I am short third feet or so of multicoloured bunting.
Where do you find bunting at the last minute ?
The gazebos are all ready to put up but I do need to get more rope to secure them as there will be a brisk breeze on Sunday.
oh I am short of tea towels.
mother in Law Sorrel is up visiting, so I will ask her to get me some when she goes shopping with Chris this afternoon.
The floats for stalls need collecting, and oh buggery, bugger.....bugger it .....I have forgotten the soddin raffle tickets....

Chicken feed needs buying, the dogs need a walk and as if I have not got enough to do
.........
one of the hens has just had a friggin prolapse

An Old Cheap Plate

I was rushing after I locked the animals up

And knocked a plate from the bedroom wall as I was undressing for a bath.

It was just an old plate,

It had no mark on it

It had no monetary value.

Chris was in bed and looked up from his book

" was that your mother's plate?" He asked

" it was" I said simply and hurried off for my bath.

And there I cried for a very short minute or so

Mourning for a cheap plate.

When my mother died I was the one that cleared out her home.

Her style, was very different to her children's

And so most of her household items were sold off.

My sisters I think took her jewellery and photos for safekeeping

There wasn't much else of value

I took a little ginger jar with a chipped lid, a jam making pan 

And a green and cream patterned plate which always hung on the wall.

The fact that I had chosen this keepsake eluded me then

And the upset , I felt at its silly destruction an hour or so ago

Surprises me now

Prestatyn Weekly 1926

I found this old local newspaper dating from January 6th 1923 when I was clearing out bric-a-brac

It makes for a fascinating read...

I noticed with amusement that on the front page it was reported that on January 1st rail fares of Great Britain were reduced by one farthing per mile! An event "that's been received with satisfaction by railway travellers throughout the country."

Wasn't there a depression on?

Boob Cakes

I am feeling just a tad nauseous

A case of too much butter icing licked 

I left the strimmer cable in the car today, and Chris took it to work

And so instead of tidying up the field, I have spent most of the afternoon making 

Cakes for the open day

I think I over did the pink icing thing

I've gone all Friggin' Barbie

The Ukrainian Village Pond

For weeks now, village character Islwyn has been tinkering around the field borders constructing me a temporary pond. The idea , planning, implementation and positioning has been his baby so to speak,     I have just watched benignly from the side lines  as a collection of sullen teenage helpers from the village have beavered away creating a shallow saucer pond that measures around fifteen feet in diameter , that is fed by a small canal which tapers away from the spring that runs along the field boundary.

This morning the geese, who are naturally cautious characters, gave the whole water park thing a go for the very first time 

Some village wag commented that the Ukrainian Village will be having street lights installed next!

Me thinks the village will have to be named real soon

In The Eye Of The Beholder

We had a busy shift last night

In the changing room after we had handed over our patients to a clean and scrubbed awake staff

The other male nurses and I climbed wearily into our home clothes

My home clothes consisted of dirty T shirt, dusty kneed pants and my trusty mud stained crocs

I stood in front of two of the more immaculate looking Filipino nurses

And as I looked down at my somewhat eclectic attire

I said wistfully to no one in particular

" I used to be beautiful"

they didn't stop laughing until they reached the main entrance
