The Great British Bake Off contestants are a boring lot.
I streamed making a casserole tonight watched by a Spanish IT expert, the Polish actor and a wise cracking Irish city man who said I sounded like Julia Childs.
All were surprised that I made it from scratch
I couldn’t bake being watched by tv cameras and Nigella Lawson I’d go to pieces
I remember swearing on my driving test
And I still passed!
Around 3pm I had a lay down in the front garden to watch some clouds and
Mrs Trellis stopped by the gate and asked me if I was sending her a Christmas card this year
I answered in the affirmative
and she looked slightly disappointed
“ if you’d said no “ she explained “ I would have given to charity”
I asked her to join me in cloud watching knowing full well that she’d refuse
But She didn’t refuse
But stood by the gate looking skywards as I laid back down
“ do you see that cloud ?” I pointed out upwards “ It looks like Alfred Hitchcock “
She squinted like a Mole, her beret slipping to one side and she smiled gently
“ looks More like the ex vicar ! “ she said
Tongue firmly in cheek, me thought…….

Oh, John, what a beautiful post! Quite magical yet so you. There is something therapeutic cooking from scratch, and what a lovely audience. (Would vampish Nigella give you the collywobbles? Or is that the silver fox Paul Hollywood? Neither do anything for me, but then neither does Bake Off)
ReplyDeleteCloud watching with Mrs T is a particular delight, beret essential. The thought of the two of you made my evening. Thank you!
We feel left out! We want to watch you cook your casserole too.
ReplyDeleteWeather must be nice if you are lying out on the grass, enoy.
I love the start of fall and making casseroles from scratch. We are trying to up our lentil and beans so have been madly adding them to casseroles.
ReplyDeletePS Child not childs…Bon Appetite!
I can't even make a cuppa if I'm being watched, never mind a casserole!
ReplyDeleteLove Mrs T, nothing seems to faze her. xx
Your conversation with Mrs. Trellis left me smiling for most of the day.
ReplyDeleteOh, do tell us about the casserole you made! My Dad used to say he'd get out his box of "Scratch" so his cooking would be extra delicious!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't watched TGBBS since Prue arrived and are years behind your episodes anyway.
What a sweet meeting with Mrs. T who is as whimsical as you are! Delightful!
Another for your book, please!
Hugs!
