Sally or Ann ?
My elder sister is in her late 70s and isn’t physically that robust.
But…Yesterday she called up to the village , with large bags of logs for my fire and cranberry juice for my bladder. Tomorrow she will deliver mince and potatoes ( a supper I adore)
She’s always been the mother I never really had and watching the Netflix movie Remarkably Bright Creatures today I realised how much Sally Field’s character Tova was just like my sister……tough, empathetic, loyal and opinionated
The film was adorable with Alfred Molina playing the grumpy octopus Marcellous quite wonderfully
I cried for an hour watching it.
Go and see it……it’s a lovely watch

Quite funny that Alfred Molina does the voice for Marcellus the Octopus when in the Spider-Man movie franchise, he plays the supervillain Doc Oc (Dr. Octopus) with the mechanical tentacles! Thanks for the recommendation, I will watch for this movie. P.S. Your sister Ann rocks!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun film. I'll look out for it.
ReplyDeleteYou're very blessed having such loving, practical and helpful sisters. You must be a good brother to warrant such devotion! xx
Sally is my all time favorite actor and I do have this on my list to see. As for your elder sister, I am not surprised she is there for you. I have one of those too and I often call her my sister/mom. She was there for me when our mother wasn't. Lucky, lucky us eh?
ReplyDeleteTell us what potatoes and mince are! A casserole? Lizzy d.
ReplyDeletenevermind, looked it up. Yummy!
DeleteThanks - I will watch it at the weekend.
ReplyDeleteLoved that movie!
ReplyDeleteI've liked Sally in anything she does, The Flying Nun, Smokey and the Bandit, Norma Rae, you name it.
ReplyDeleteSisters. Sisters. There were never such devoted Sisters. A good brother gets good Sisters, who bring tough love and practical gifts. You have wonderful siblings, and are so lucky to have such a good family. But you know that! Count those blessings. Not everyone has such a gift.
ReplyDeleteOther than the obvious, how are you feeling today? Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI’ve thought a lot about how absent, inadequate or abusive parents cause so many of us such damage. I relate to it all, but I found help and role models to help me understand and heal. The damage lasts generations, and even with help I think it’s about three generations before normal loving, adequate parenting is reestablished. Two World Wars left so many men hugely damaged, and now there’s more damage being inflicted on the children (and adults)of so much of Europe and the Middle East. So, join the dots.
ReplyDeleteDammit, I’m not anonymous, I apologise. I’m Virginia
ReplyDeleteI could never watch a film with an octopus. It's about the only true phobia I have. Even a ridiculously big fake one in Reap the Wild Wind was difficult to watch - Bel Ami
ReplyDeleteGrandad?
