Hello all….gawd I’m fucked
My second 12 hour day shift , working alongside
One twenty something, one thirty something and one forty something
It was a bloody busy shift
And
By 7 pm the 20 and 30 year olds were on their last legs
I looked like the wreck of the Hesperus
But still upright and still almost cheerful
Someone brought us a cake which we devoured like zombies
With cups of hastily made tea and much weary laughter
Then more call bells went off
And we got on with it
Home with a gin ,now
Roger is licking my feet
Mary is cuddling up with Bun on the couch
Even Weaver is trying to look remotely sympathetic
Bed soon
Sleep long and deeply. You've earned it. xx
ReplyDeleteI once saw a cartoon of Snoopy saying the best thing is laughter and sleep. After your very busy and very long shifts, hope you and your weary co-workers had some good laughs and now you cozy and in dreamland.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
As an RN for 44 years….day shift has a tendency to be very hectic compared to nights…..was wondering if you were going to notice it when you worked or mentioned anything similar.
ReplyDeletelong shift....all of you weary and headed home after cake.... ahh....and *stand by me* is on my top ten list of favorite songs of my life....says so much. sleep well....cuddle those animals...and be refreshed tomorrow!

I honestly don't know how you do it John. I worry about you.
ReplyDeleteHave a good night's sleep, John. You earned it!
ReplyDeleteYou need a pampering Spa Weekend. My mother used to go to Champney's (?), and always returned REVIVED!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good rest after that shift and I like how you describe the scene at home when you finished.
ReplyDelete"Stand by me" is always so moving.
My daughter works nights and often gets a break in the wee hours. Days sound exhausting. How long does it take to recover?

Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteSleep well.
ReplyDeleteI'm always amazed/disappointed at the hours/shifts that medical professionals are expected to work. I'd prefer a fresh doc/nurse attending to me. Not to say that you folks aren't giving your all.
ReplyDeleteI hope you’re still enjoying a good sleep. You know it’s bad if Weaver is attempting sympathy.
