Oh, John. Are YOU OK? So dangerous. That’s something we worried about with the cats every time we got out of bed (or walked anywhere). We had some close calls. Great look, though. Are you auditioning for Harry Potter: The Ancients? You almost got the scar right.
So sorry for your collision with whatever left that squarish injury on your forehead. We got a night light for the hall and bathroom when we had those 3 kittens and their mama. All were mostly black so illumination was essential. And your last tetanus shot was when?
Oh John! How frightening and painful. Did you go to the ER? No stitches? Tetanus shot? This past winter when it was so cold I had to train my pug not to sleep by the frigid drafty window and when I moved his bed he took to sleeping on the floor between me and the bathroom. It was hard work training him NOT to do that, he was almost 12 but we did it. [then I felt so bad he never got to sleep again in his special spot under the window, he died so suddenly last month.] Maybe closing the bathroom door at night would stop Mary from sleeping there?
Hugs John, hope you are okay. I stumble easily these days too perhaps more when I am tired and when I fall cannot stop myself these days. Going back to the early days when I was a right tumble tot. Would a very low light on the landing help or one that comes on with movement in case you cannot sleep with any light on. Glad that Mary is okay. Hugs from here and wishing you better. OW! One of my little dogs has started standing directly behind my feet. I've almost fallen a few times. I'd like to think at some point I will look for her automatically but old brains need lots of training. It doesn't help that I nursed a sweet lady who broke her neck tripping over her little dog. One of the last things she said to me was expressing concern for her little dog. She died a few hours later. She was one of the ones you don't forget.
From now on, I suggest you use a Victorian chamber pot placed close to your bed. Failing that, how about an empty 2 litre Coca Cola bottle? You say you hit a knob? Mmmm...interesting.
Seriously though - I hope you recover quickly. Quite a shock to the system.
