Look at the photo of Trelawnyd carefully and you can see Gop Hill behind. The burial mound atop the Gop is around 800 feet above sea level. The village is around 550 feet. Many of the fir trees have recently been cut down, giving the hill a slightly unframed look, which I understand was how it looked 100 years ago before the saplings were planted
My sister is talking about Christmas
Lovely photos of Trelawnyd and the surrounding hills. Sorry the trees needed to be cut down but suppose those who make the decisions about the trees knew what was best for the land and landscape.
ReplyDeleteYou live in such a beautiful place, John!
Hugs!
I do don’t I?
DeleteBeautiful. Has it ever been excavated?
ReplyDeleteThat was what I was wondering too. Jean in Winnipeg
DeleteNo human bones but plenty of hyena, wolf and deer
DeleteHow lovely to be able to live somewhere with such a long history. All of a sudden the season has turned. I always feel sad when I hear the geese flying South. That, to me, is a real harbinger of winter. xx
ReplyDeleteYes I too have watched the geese and remembered Camilla Parker Bowles fondly
DeleteSnap! Though Silbury Hill beats the Gop. In its folklore apparently Boudica is buried there, though as Rhiannon on Modern Antiquarian says 'bit far for a girl from Essex to go'. Apparently there was a battle beneath the Gop between the Romans and the Celts. But of course the mound was earlier.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful place and view. Feels magical in the quiet with only birdsong.
ReplyDeleteI feel the changes of autumn too and the signs of winter approaching.
Great views. It all looks very peaceful.
ReplyDeleteSeems there was a very good solar panel salesman in your village!!
ReplyDeleteAutumn is here as well, and we are preparing for winter too. I have noticed the seasons are far more exciting when you have a beautiful view changing before your very eyes.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. We think we saw our department store putting Christmas lights on the outside of the building Friday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. This reminds me of some of your posts when I first began following you.
ReplyDeleteLovely to hear the blackbird.
ReplyDeleteWhy were the fir trees cut down? Who is buried in the burial mound? So many questions:)
ReplyDeleteThe video is lovely.
If one knows where to look, your house is in one of those images. I am almost done with Christmas shopping, by fruit cakes are mellowing (soaking up the booze) in the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteWho is in the burial mound? Lovely view from up there.
ReplyDeleteHow many people live in your village?
We have mounds here in Florida but none so impressive or as old as yours. Ours were built a mere 1100-1800 years ago by Native Americans. There is a park with two of them just a very few miles from my house.
ReplyDeleteTree hugger here.... hate to see any trees cut down... my elevation is 1,844 ft.... in West Central Texas... Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGorgeous view! An impressive number of solar panel installations too. 😊
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend shifts have been uneventful and calm.
Stay safe & well, John dear.
Yes, Christmas will be here before we know it. Kind of scary!
ReplyDeleteEverything is looking and feeling more like Autumn. Cool nights and even some frost has started to deplete the garden.
ReplyDeleteChristmas is coming on fast.
I love hearing all of the birdsong. There aren’t as many near my house, especially this time of year.
ReplyDeleteBonnie in Minneapolis
What a beautiful overview! Thank you for that. I'm loaded with the same questions others have already asked.
ReplyDeleteGreat view from above of your beloved village.
ReplyDeleteThe first photograph is quite lovely
DeleteI bought a small whisky Christmas fruit cake yesterday; I thought it was pushing the season, but oh well. I can eat fruit cake whenever I want to. Gigi
ReplyDeleteYou giddy kipper
