Caps & Gowns

I never went to my graduation,
Nu said I should be grateful for small mercies as they can be all anticipation for little reward.
But I wanted to wear my cap and gown in the colours of Bangor University and stand with my fellow graduates ( above) with some pride and hubris.
Im happy to say that my rented cap and Gown should be delivered next week and I shall be wearing it around the cottage like a house coat.
I’m shallow and needy enough to enjoy the photographs like a toddler with a pink balloon
I’m sorry my mother and father never got to see such a photo.
The child in me still needs that validation….

  1. Maybe you should splash out on a professional photo? It's a huge achievement and should be celebrated. The idea of you swishing round the cottage in your gown made me laugh. Just don't eat or drink anything anywhere near it. You don't want a cleaning bill! I know it's not the same as the pride your parents would have for you, but there are so many of us out here who are immensely proud and in awe of you. xx

What a good idea HH has brought up! A professional photo, not of poster size unless that's what floats your boat, and something you can look at with pride at your wonderful accomplishment! I'm only old enough to be your older sister, but I'm immensely proud of you.
Yes, the word picture of you planning to parade around the cottage in the cap and gown brought today's first smile and laugh as did the reminder not to dribble any foodstuffs on the gown. We're a wild and crazy bunch of friends, eh?!

    Hugs!

  3. You have achieved your goal brilliantly. You are impressive with or without parental acknowledgement.
Have fun swishing around in your cap and gown.
How about following that with a few celebratory drinks with your besties making a bit of a graduation bash?

  4. Yes, a proper photo of you begowned and capped would be a great way to celebrate your achievement. If you do get someone to oblige, please share it with us x

  5. You should be proud and there's nothing wrong with that. You worked hard and deserve a photo with you in a graduation gown.

I’m envisioning a graduation recognition ceremony in the village hall for anyone who wants to come “walk” as they say here indicating parading across the stage and being handed a rolled up paper tied with ribbon. Maybe as part of the Christmas variety show? Someone could read the Dr Seuss poem that is popping at graduations here.

  8. You worked hard and made a lot of sacrifices to become a professional counsellor. You deserve to wear the cap and gown. You earned it. Enjoy every minute of wearing the regalia and get nice photos taken. I hope you'll post at least one for us to see!

  9. It has become a bit of a farce, anyway. The down and picture are the best parts. Congratulations.

  10. I don't understand why you feel it is shallow and needy to be proud of an accomplishment? To quote my father - "that is ass backward". Life can be hard enough so I say celebrate all that we can. Your diploma is one that I would be proud to say I have. And I would love to see a picture or ten - as I'm sure all of us would. XO

Llongyfarchiadau! Congratulations you should celebrate with at least a picture! I only have a family photo of when I got my degree but I feel it is important. I also gained my degree whilst working full time & with a young family and feel , at least to me, it is worth even more than that of someone who just enjoyed student years & then started working. Don’t knock yourself it was worth all your hard work! Do get the photo 🤞best wishes Anna Meirionnydd

  14. You worked hard and earned every bit of it so you deserve some sort of milestone recognition. However, unless Bun, Weaver, Mary, and Roger witness it, it did not happen. So, swan about the cottage in your cap and gown, being mindful of spills and dribbles, and send a photo of the requisite witnesses.

  18. Even if you didn't attend the actual ceremony, happy graduation!

  19. I totally agree - the proper photograph is IMPORTANT, and richly deserved, as the culmination of all that hard work. We're all very impressed, and proud of you, and we want to see the photos, as we would've wanted to see the ceremony if you''d been at it. And swishing around in the gown has a very special feeling to it. But, do et out a coat hanger before you unpack the gown, I fear what naughty Weaver might do to it if she got the chance! It doesn't bear thinking about!

  20. I didn't go to my graduation either, so no photo on my mantlepiece. I have one of my oldest son in Oxford, but my two other children both have various degrees, but no photos. They're all doing well which the important bit.

I can imagine you swanning about wearing cap and gown covered in cat hair. Those filmy fabricsare magnets for the stuff. Good thing you have black cats. Congratulations once again. You achieved an ambition and an important step in your financial future. Swan away.

I never attended my graduation either. I have no regrets at all, basically,I don't like a fuss. I enjoyed studying and got a lot out of doing my degree, for me, it was about me, and that was enough.Carole R.
