Emergency

I’m working nights and it’s busy
At three pm my phone made an odd, urgent buzzing noise
And although half asleep, the hairs on my neck stood up,
Mary didn’t stir
But Roger raised his head sleepily.
Bun who was sat on my hip, opened just one eye and
Weaver as usual was out killing something large.

Thank God it’s not the Zombie apocalypse
Nothing much happened in Bwthyn y Llan

  1. I hope I have turned all of those alerts off on my phone.

  2. The emergency test alert startled me, too. I'd forgotten about it. I love that the animals snuggle up when you're asleep, and the image of Weaver stalking lions and tigers and bears - oh my! xx

  3. Was this the national alert I heard about? Well, I guess it works.

Hope the old dears of Trelawnyd didn't rush out for toilet rolls .

How alarming those alarms are! Am glad nothing was amiss and all could return to sleep except for Weaver who was still busy.
    Rainy morning here.

    Hugs!

  6. It didn't last for long - barely long enough to register! And it was one minute late!

  7. But what was it? Here it can be a storm, a hurricane, a flood, a high wind alert? Usually too late but , oh well.

    1. Lizzy, it was just a test, in case it's ever needed for storm warnings or worse. Sadly, domestic abuse charities have been telling women how to disable the alert if they have a secret phone that their abusive partner doesn't know about. That is such a frightening thought.

Recently my phone alerted me that a flying insect was near the front of my home at 2 am. When hurricane Helene hit here in Georgia no alarms sounded even though I have them all on my phone! We may get blown away by a hurricane but at least no moth will kill us in our sleep.

    1. Exactly! When we got the texts to evacuate for H Sandy [admittedly years ago now], the water was already 12 feet deep on our only road and cars were floating by, water lapping at my front door. Then the cell towers went out and we knew nothing for days. Love that your phone alerts for moths tho.

What a fuss about nothing that alarm test was! Very much a damp squib, and not much emergency about it!
Weaver is a very industrious and diligent hunter. Is she a replica of Albert, prone to bring you baby rabbits? Or is she ambitious for something larger? A pheasant, perhaps? The real Weaver would have been so amused.

    1. I was just thinking the same Liz. Our friend Weaver would have loved reading about the antics and adventures of her namesake 😊

We were at a National Trust property and the phone alerts went off in the courtyard, some a few minutes later than others. My sister didn’t receive one through her phone service provider. Some of the message was in Welsh.

I had marmalade on my toast this morning but didn't think it was worthy of a blog post.

  13. My old mobile sounded first, and spoke the message, then husband's went off, but with just a text. We had been waiting - both were a bit late!

  19. This is a test. This is only a test. That’s the pits. Our cats would have flown from the room.

  21. We got the alert loud and clear, we were both expecting it after driving up and down motorways for the last few weeks with it flashed up on the lit up signs. I was watching television, but Alan was asleep!! It's good to know that it all works as it should.
