Daydreaming

Welsh terriers sit and think and watch.
It’s what they do
As I type this, Roger sits in the doorway.
He’s been like this for three quarters of an hour now.
Listening to the workmen refashioning Trevor’s old bungalow, and the sparrows fighting together in the hazel hedge that separates my cottage from John & Mandy’s
I wonder if he’s thinking of anything in particular

The scaffolding is going up around the village hall and the roof and window repairs will be started soon, and even where we live, we can hear the metallic clinking of the metal poles as they are unloaded in High Street.

I found myself daydreaming too, ages spent looking out into the garden, with the village noises, wind and birds one for company.
I’ve decided that the best Disney song ever is this one

Funny where your mind wanders to when you let it

Dear sweet Roger. I often wonder what my Annie is thinking when she sits and looks off into the distance. I think they hear and know so much more than we mere humans do. Thinking about you here in Georgia USA John. We all care about you and your world even though we have never met. We are still a community. Take care.

A calming pastime, listening to the birds and looking at the plants whilst enjoying a little breeze. Hugs to you and Roger.

  6. We no longer have a dog, nor the responsibility for one, and this I don't miss. But dogs are the sweetest of creatures and I'm glad there are a couple down the road that I can visit. And yours, online.

A lovely photo of Roger! Dogs do tend to divide into Watchers or Woofers. One sort like to quietly observe the world going by, the others rush about signalling "Yippee!" But not necessarily much else.
Watchful dogs are restful dogs. And that is a bit contagious.
Glad you caught that moment of inner peace from Roger. Good for you.

  8. Like Roger, my Caesar listens and watches keenly. Nothing gets by Caesar.
Do you think Roger wants to see what's going on at the Hall? All the construction sounds must make him curious.

  9. I don't think dogs think of anything in particular, they are so good at being completely and utterly 'in the moment'. We can learn so much from our dogs.

  10. What a beautiful photo of Roger. Makes me think of the lines, "What is this life, if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare." And he has a splendid view from your door, to sit and contemplate. xx

What a sweet picture of Roger, sitting quietly to think whatever thoughts he has. Lovely garden for him to consider, too. Perhaps he is guarding against the Clanging Monster?
Wishing you and pleasant and peaceful day and night shift.

    Hugs!

  12. Elsie sits and watches the pigeons in the garden. At 14 with a tricky hip, you'd think she's too old to chase them, but she's biding her time. At a moment, known only to her, she's off like a rocket and the birds scatter. (ps - yes to what Jackie said.) xx

  13. I think I'd do well to channel a Welsh, if only for a little while.

  15. Our starlings also gather in a hazel hedge to bicker. Or in the elder trees at the back of our garden.

  16. I often wonder what my pug is thinking..then he snores. You sound a bit tired, all the commotion keeping you awake? Do you use a white noise machine?
I love your garden, like a secret special hideaway.

  22. I often look at Billy and wonder what he's thinking; or even if he's thinking at all. It must be very strange being a dog, and living with humans.
