Autumn

Autumn is here, right on time. It’s rained on and off for most of the day and the grass of my lawn and the pasture in the pony field has gratefully devoured the moisture, like the cats do after too much dry food. The dry summer has crisped the leaves of the Churchyard trees, and already many are falling, blowing in the strong westerly winds whisking over the hills beyond the Felin.

Trelawnyd is bracing itself for Autumn, and then winter, I think.
I know I am
I’m looking forward to the colder days, jumpers with holes in, comfort food and Bake Off.
I will be going to Spanish for Beginners night class and am thinking of organising a book club

The twins have never seen snow
Black cats surrounded by white look like cartoon animals I always think.
Dirty paw prints everywhere

Everything moves on

Ah, yes, AUTUMN!!!! I'm in a long sleeve cotton tee with sweatpants this morning as it's too chilly for lighter wear. Have changed the calendars, too. Hurray!!
Our cats didn't go out in the snow for more than three minutes. Step, raise and shake paw, look offended, repeat a time or two, reenter house at speed.
Methinks as a licensed counselor, you need a few jumpers without holes for client meetings. Okay?

    Hugs!

  2. Ah, yes, John - get yourself a beautiful Irish knit sweater, zippered or not, that you can pull off before you dribble breakfast on it. It will look great, keep you warm, and never goes out of style. I have one I bought in Ireland way back in 2010 and I still love it. I just wore it for the first time last week, as temps were downright chilly here in Michigan. Autumn always comes to us in the last two weeks of August.

  3. Your Fall into winter sounds lovely, so cozy. Did you ever get the solar panels and heat pumps installed? It's a warm/hot sunny summer day here. Summer usually lasts til November, which is good bec the winters are so dark and cold.
Love the mental image of black cats on white snow! Maybe this year they will go out and explore it.

  5. Autumn here too, although not much rain, just some intermittent soft mizzle. Hopefully enough to revive my yellowing, droopy rhododendrons.

  6. Rain on and off here today and a few claps of thunder, with really heavy rain for about 5 mins. I'm not looking forward to the colder months, in fact I dread them more and more each year. Thicker duvet going on the bed next time I change the bedding, methinks! xx

  9. What a great description of your oncoming fall. There is still a hot enough sun here in Virginia, but there is also a cool breeze that is promising. I love the change of seasons and I'm already digging through my sweaters - or jumpers, as you say. :)

Yes, it is strange the way autumn arrives all of a piece, the air changes, and you can smell colder days coming. On the other hand - with today being the meteorological first day of autumn - it is a relief from too much sun and too much sweating! I have never been a bikini and sun slop sort of person - give me a woolly hat and wellies ay time!
You have great plans for winter; love the idea of the Spanish classes so you can really sing along with the lisping choir and know what you are singing! Go forit, John Grey!

  15. Fall-fan here as well, but usually won't have much of it until late October. One of our cats was a bright white but in the snow he surprisingly looked quite yellow ..

We have had the best ever summer day here. The air show has just ended, I watched the planes take off and land at the airport on youtube. Wonderful to see the Snowbirds land 3 by 3 by 3, so fast. Now fall usually happens. Gigi

  17. The air is cooler especially at night and days are around 70 degrees F. The acorns are starting to drop from the Oaks. Autumn is lovely and when the leaves start to turn the color it will be brilliant.

Officially into the 2nd day of spring here. September is a wicked month for wind I don't like it very much. Can get very cold too much colder than winter ironically. Nearly out of wood too so I hope I am wrong this year. Autumn is also my favourite season in both hemispheres. I just love the leaf fall and the colours.
Wooly jumpers for you now on in!

  25. Loving the rain here, got drenched yesterday and realised I don't own a waterproof coat! Its quite trendy to have jumpers with holes at the mo, all part of the slow living thing for eco warriers, you repair the holes with pride and wear the wonk stitchery like a badge of pride! My black cat is a fair weather cat, I don't think in the last five years her feet have felt snow. We could do with a proper winter, nature has lost its course. Betty

  26. I once had a fine big black cat. He moved in on us in Florida, then we moved to northern Indiana. First snow, he kept wanting to go out, then would change his mind when I opened the door and felt the cold. I got fed up with his game, picked him up, and tossed him onto the deck in the snow. He looked around, picked up one paw, shook it dry - then realized he was going to have to out it down again. He finally did - and bounded back into the house. Boojum was a very smart cat, and never whined at at the door to go out again when there was snow on the ground.

  27. Enjoyed your description of the coming of autumn. I love the season; the beautiful colours, cooler air and the feeling that Nature is slowly settling down to sleep.

I think Spanish is a great language to learn. It seems to just "flow" and have a lovely sound to it.

  29. Years ago we had a tabby and white cat, but in the snow he wasn't white at all......much creamier! I am now wondering how the white dog will look in snow! We only had him in January so no idea if he likes snow or not. He isn't at all timid so will probably go nuts in it!

  30. We haven't had any appreciable snow for several years. I like the look of it but not the insistent wetness. Meanwhile, enjoy the softer September days.

  31. Oh yes ... Bake Off, it starts tonight and then that's me hooked. You describe the village settling into Autumn so well and I love the plans you have made. With Spanish tucked beneath your belt you'll be able to lisp along with the choir in their own language.

Of all our cats only Archie, the biggest fluffiest one loved the snow. He would roll around in it not caring that he eventually came in looking absolutely drenched. He would sit licking himself for a while and then cuddle into Sophie the Border Collie to warm up. She put up with it for a while!!

  32. Sweater weather, bring it on! We were brutalized this summer here in the Midwest of the U.S. with heat and humidity that went on forfuckingEVER. I don't remember being that level of miserable before, and I whined about it like a cranky toddler every day. Can't wait to hear about Bun and Weaver's antics in the snow.

  33. We have a long way to go before it looks like autumn here. It currently looks like maybe a little milder summer. Low to high 30s for the next 10 days. I can’t wait for the twins to experience their first snow. I hope you’ll be able to record it.
