Eye

My eye injection was unpleasant but not painful
I asked the nurse if a colleague could hold my head still and she complied with suitable force
( she could have wrestled a pig)
The only thing that went wrong
Is…..
They used permanent marker to dot above the eye to be injected
I did see the funny side

As a former surgery nurse, it is so very, very important to have the patient mark (or nurse mark with patient pointing) the planned surgical side when there are bilateral sites like eyes, ears, arms, legs or multiples like fingers or toes. No mistake that way. Nobody wants that kind of mistake!
I'm glad this injection is over with, no pain, and that someone helped you keep still.

    Big hugs!

  2. Well, think of it as a beauty spot rather than a war wound! At least there wasn't a big, red arrow as well. Glad there was no pain and no bloodshot eye this time. Time to rest and recuperate. xx

  4. Any surgical procedure requires permanent marker locators. After cataract surgery it's usually gone due to the surgical prep. It washes off. Face cloth and warm water. Does the trick

  6. Good! I think we've all been worried. At least I have. Or not worried, really, just thinking about you, wanting it to be over for you.

  8. I thought beauty spot too. You might just become an instagram worthy trendsetter. It will be interesting to see how many people notice and which ones mention it and which ones pretend it's not there. I would have fun with it.

  11. Don't know about on skin, but have successfully used acetone to remove permanent marker on other surfaces. Anyway, it's safe to say it will fade pretty quickly.

  12. At least they knew exactly which eye required the injection! Imagine the horror of getting an injection in the wrong eye and then coming back to get the correct eye injected.
Will you get a new dot for each new injection?
You'll be the guy with the dots.

  13. When my surgeon marked the hip he was replacing, he signed it! I went around with his autograph on my hip for weeks. But there wasn't an audience except his surgical team. I'm glad your eye appointment is over for now.

“It will just take a couple of seconds” … those are the longest seconds that I’ve encountered. Well done you.

  16. It's worth the hassle if it works.
It took a while for my cataract arrow to go.

  17. John speaking as one who is forever getting very stainy hair dye on my face, it will come off in a few days when your skin's natural oils come through and lift it away. Glad to hear it wasn't too bad especially after last time!

A nurse on the receiving end is never in a happy place, but you are a hero to get through it. A stout heart carries you through. Oh, and not wanting to appear a right wuss! Think of your teeny weeny dot as a tramp stamp to be proud of. There, there!

A nurse did the injection? What about the assurance that the senior consultant would do it after the fuss you made last time?
Or was that told for a "good story" too?

  26. I got a tattoo in my "lower region" for when I had radiation for my prostate cancer. It was a little dot to help them focus the "gun" or whatever it is called to dispense the radiation. It has disappeared! That eye stuff must be so awful!
