Hardly surprising. After all the strong, emotional and touching memorials for VE Day held this week, the appointment of a new Pope seems a fitting addition to the world. And he is the first Pope from America! Let us hope he is an open, inspiring and calming influence in this mad world of the moment.
I was not moved to tears, for oh so many reasons, but I was glad that his initial emphasis was on peace, invitations to dialogue, compassion and empathy.
He comes across as genuine and people speak highly of him. I have slight reservations because he has spent his religious career in administration even when he was in Peru. A good thing for the church but for pastoral care perhaps a little wanting. He also had a misstep when he approved a retired priest, with a history of child abuse, to lodge in a church building close to a primary school. Not a wilful act of blindness in my opinion but a poor understanding of the concerns of parents. I do hope he carries on in the style of Pope Francis in being more open to all of humanity.
Maybe you were moved by the ancient ritual and pageantry of the Pope being chosen. I hope he is a strong man with peace in his heart. How are you feeling? lizzy
The more I hear, the more impressed I am by the new pope. Definitely in the vein of Francis, with a strong emphasis on the poor, disenfranchised, and migrants. I'm hopeful that this will help balance out our horror of a president.
I 'jumped ship' to live with Aunty 40+ years ago, so I feel somewhat removed from the whole thing. It's not a job you would wish on your worst enemy, but, quite frankly, they're done... the huge issues of clerical abuse, the whole problems of sexual repression women, of their place in the church, of control of their reproductive lives, the problems of financing the church... on, and on, and on... huge problems. Well, we shall see...
He was a college classmate of J's. A strong manager, a believer in helping the poor and disenfranchised. The feeling is he is the right man, at the right time.
An American Pope! And straight away denouncing Dump and Dance! I don't know if he can help our situation here in the States - especially once you piss off D and D, but it makes me happy that he is outspoken about them and their reign of terror. I love being with my sister; she and I are easy together, too, and it's lovely and comforting.
A new pope has unseated pope donald and his sidekick, good on him for calling them out. Just maybe there will be a little change for the better but who knows.
Hope indeed. The world needs as many good people in it as possible. xx
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I wish him well in this troubled world.
ReplyDeleteHugs!

Emotional
DeleteI quite like the fact that the new pope called out Vance a few weeks back when he tried to justify the American first approach on biblical reasoning.
ReplyDeleteHe has a tough job ahead of him.
He does have a tough job...and Francis will be a hard act to follow.
ReplyDeleteAn American....not just USA... interesting. Hoping for peace too xx
Anyone who calls out Vance and any of the other creeps has to be a good person
ReplyDeleteYes, I too shed a silent tear. Hope is kindled. There is still goodness in this world and that is worth fighting for.

ReplyDeleteEverybody needs something to believe in :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. but for some reason when I heard the Pope was from the US... I also felt much trepidation from my gut.
ReplyDeleteWhy can I not feel excited?
ReplyDeleteAs another (proudly) lapsed R.C. - ho hum!

ReplyDeleteI hope he will continue to drag the Roman Catholic church into the 21st century.

ReplyDeleteHope indeed, he does sound like an excellent choice to continue Francis' work.
