Giselle

Sometimes we limit ourselves because of effort and boxes which we construct around ourselves. The broken handle on the back door is a case in point, I’ve lived with it for months now, and only recently has it got on my tits enough for me to fix it today.

And that’s satisfying as fuck!

Today I’ve decided that things need doing.

I read with interest that the National Ballet Company of Japan is guesting at the Royal Opera House in July. It performs Giselle and I’m bloody well going to the Saturday matinee, I suspect it will be a delightful experience so bish, bash, bosh , I’ve got me an ok seat and an early train to London.

I’m on a roll today.

  2. That will be a performance worth seeing. I had the impression it was in modern dress, but maybe that was something else.

  3. When you finally get to a task and get it done, it's great. Especially if it doesn't lead to complications.

  4. Yes, some jobs you put off because you know they'll take ages and be a real pain, others you put off because you can't be a**ed. But when you do get round to it, the sense of satisfaction is immense, isn't it? I'm glad you've rewarded yourself with a little treat. xx

  5. Oh, yes!
Finishing stuff is quite satisfactory. I'm slightly compulsive when things need to be done, so I finish stuff quite quickly, but yes.
And the ballet??? But of course!!

    XOXO

Oh lucky you, John! Meanwhile, I’m going to waterproof a porch pillow and cross it off my to-do list. My joy is boundless.

That sounds pretty good to me. Sometimes you just have to shift yourself and make the effort. You need to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake - thirty years on it is still the most amazing show, and still seems as fresh, scary, emotional ground breaking and adventuresome as it did in the beginning. It often turns up on Sky Arts, or at the cinema, as well as world touring.

  13. Isn’t it amazing how we can put off fixing something for months or even years... and then finally do it and learn it took a matter of minutes... and then never learn from that?

How exciting to see the Japanese ballet company. I imagine it will be fantastic. I too live with broken things for ages and then suddenly one day, I have had enough and it is replaced. Finally, got a new shower head, now I can rinse my hair properly not using a jug.

I have a name for all those things that sit too long on my to-do list. I call them ‘half-dead crumbs’.

My late hubby was always “gunnie” fix this and that, but the only thing he worked on was his boat. After he died I called in a plumber and an electrician and it probable took each of them less than two hours to do all my jobs. I even got the electrician to change every light bulb in the house to the long life ones so I don’t have to climb ladders anymore. Very little has gone wrong in the last 5 years so it was well worth calling the experts. Funny how little things getting done can bring such satisfaction. Gigi

  24. Little annoying jobs always seem to be the ones that wait the longest to get fixed don't they. Once they are done the relief is great ... perhaps we do that to ourselves almost on purpose.
