It’s a lovely day in Trelawnyd today. I’m working overtime later and I’m finishing my presentation this morning, but I was out early walking the dogs.
The Gop is covered in golden gorse bushes which are in full bloom.
The hill looks glorious.
My cottage, looks neat and tidy too, I snapped a photo before collecting my McDonald’s porridge
While I may have missed it over the years, do you know much about the history of your cottage?
ReplyDeleteYes my cottage was originally built in 1674 then rebuilt in 1865
DeleteIt was a place where ale and wine could be bought
And above the front door is the carved words
In vino veritas ( in wine there’s truth)
The man that rebuilt the church rebuilt my cottage and my cottage and my neighbours cottage were known as llan cottages ( church cottages)
You lead a charmed life - well done. Sandra
DeleteI do x
DeleteSpring makes everything look and feel better, doesn't it? My favourite time of the year. The feeling of new life and hope. xx
ReplyDeleteA new start
DeleteI feel exactly the same about this time of year.
DeleteOh, Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteA much welcome Spring. Lovely pics John.
ReplyDeleteWhat a peaceful beautiful morning.
ReplyDeleteThat shot of the cottage is charming and so inviting.
ReplyDeleteVery Snow White x
DeleteYou are a very lucky man John Gray, to live in such a beautiful place. The hills in bloom, oh yes. I make my oatmeal in the microwave, only oats and water and 1 min. to cook. I like mine chewy. I would never eat oatmeal out. I’m too cheap. I almost never buy coffee out unless it is a seniors coffee at MacDonalds. I don’t know if they still do them. Thats how long I have been using my Nesspresso. Have a fabulous rest of the day. Gigi
ReplyDeleteIt’s another part of my self care, the one treat of the day
DeleteSmall things I do for myself make me feel rich.
DeleteHome sweet home.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the sixth form doing A levels, a group of us went on a residential Field Study course for a couple of weeks. Obviously botany played a large part of it. I always remember our Lecturer saying, "Kissing's out of season when the gorse is out of bloom."
ReplyDeleteWhen I see a gorse bush anywhere in the country with even a single bloom at any time of year, I remember his words and smile.
Jean.
Home sweet home.
ReplyDeleteThat smell.of coconut when the sun warms the gorse flowers!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos that actually look like spring. We're in the middle of a snowstorm and have had at least 4 inches of snow. I love your cottage. It looks cozy and snug.
ReplyDeleteA lovely home, John. Glad you are so happy there.
ReplyDelete"Gorse bushes" feature prominently in "Winnie the Pooh" and other British children's books - flash forward 30 plus years and one of my kids was thrilled to see gorse blooming on a hiking trip last summer. He mentioned too a lovely sweet scent.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Ceci
You do appear to live in a fairytale cottage in a fairytale village. Whenever you mention McDonald's I have a moment of being shocked. I suppose there are McDonald's even in fairytales these days.
ReplyDeleteIt’s four miles away
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of your cottage and neighborhood! Ah, Springtime!! Our forsythia, Bradford Pear trees, Plum tree, and Crabapple tree are all in bloom, too. Along with 3 sweet Hyacinths.
ReplyDeleteNice to help out by working today since you're wonderfully well rested from your days off!
Hugs!
I think I need to put in vino veritas over my front door too !! Just saying ! Xx Bernie
ReplyDeleteThe Gop looks beautiful - you can almost smell spring from that photograph! And your cottage always looks like a home should look. Shift over, I'm moving in!
ReplyDeleteLook at the Living room carpet closely and you’d change your mind
DeleteI have always had dogs, and spent my school holidays on my godfathers farm, and always rode horses. Mucky boots, paws, hooves, blankets and carpets hold no fear for me. Or you either! Takes one to know one....
DeletePost card beautiful--so green already. The cottage looks like a storybook house. Have you ever tried the overnight in fridge oatmeal? I have not but it sounds like a nice summer breakfast w berries, maybe. Hope the long shift goes quietly.
ReplyDeletelizzy
It didn’t x
DeleteI was so excited to see gorse. I had read about Pooh's difficulties with gorse for years, and to finally see it with my own eyes was a sweet moment.
ReplyDeleteI love the scent of gorse. It is considered a Noxious weed here but there is still a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm facing the fact, as I visit blogs these days, that I actually live in "The North." It'll be along time till we see green around here.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever get unexpected visits from people who read your blog? I am too old to travel anymore, but would love to see Trelawnyd. Sounds charming. Sandra
ReplyDeleteIt does look glorious! Your cottage inviting and cosy. I love the hope and beauty of Spring too.
ReplyDeleteThat looks beautiful. I'm fascinated by the slate-roofed 'tower' like building on the right of the top photo, with the crisscross wall. It looks like a dovecot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It looks like spring has finally arrived in your part of the world. Xx
ReplyDelete"Gop" sounds vaguely vulgar... like Gob married with Slop. By the looks of it, it should be renamed Gorse Hill or wait a few years and it could become The John Gray Memorial Hill with a new Drive-Thru McDonalds at the bottom selling Happy Meals containing collectable John Gray figurines made in China.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to view a glimpse into another person's surroundings. You live in a charming place.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place to live. Cali
